Freshlings Nursery is committed to the safeguarding and promotion of welfare of children. All positions are subject to individuals securing enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance.


We are seeking a Nursery Manager who is responsible for the daily operations of our setting whilst leading the team to deliver our ambitious plans to become a centre of excellence in the South West.


We believe that every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support which enables them to fulfil their potential. Therefore, you will work closely with the Plymouth Institute of Education to lead, develop and instil our curriculum which is designed to develop creative, kind, independent, curious and confident children who are ready to continue their love of learning at school.


Role-modelling safeguarding, you will be the Designated Safeguarding Lead for the setting and promote the ethos that Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and that this duty extends beyond the setting to the child’s homelife and elsewhere.


Critical to the ongoing success of our Nursery, is a leader with strong functional knowledge and the ability to work collaboratively with the key stakeholders, including, but not limited to, parents, children, the UCSP Board and Management Team, Academics, Local Authority, Childcare Professionals and University colleagues.

This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week, for 52 weeks per year on a permanent basis.


The appointed candidate would be employed by University Commercial Services Plymouth Ltd (UCSPL) and would therefore be subject to their terms and conditions of employment. UCSPL is a wholly owned subsidiary company of The University of Plymouth. UCSPL is committed to delivering a superior service in a sustainable way, whilst enriching the experience of our students, staff and wider community at the University of Plymouth through our Early Years Education and Care, Retail Catering, Hospitality and Events.


You will:


  • Hold an approved level 3 Early Years Educator qualification/ (or equivalent) or above.
  • Have at least two years’ experience of working in an early year setting or have at least two years’ other suitable experience.
  • Be confident initiating and implementing the Safeguarding process.
  • Oversee the successful running and quality of the setting.

  • Liaise with parents and professionals face to face/by telephone/in writing.
  • Work both individually and in teams.
  • Maintain confidentiality and act appropriately with sensitive information.
  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholders.
