JOB PURPOSE
The Care Assistant responsibilities are to care for the service users in a manner, which respects their dignity and privacy and promotes their independence.
Main Responsibilities:
a. To work at all times, within the guidelines of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Employee Handbook and
Company Policy and Procedure
b. To attend and contribute to staff meetings when required.
c. To maintain confidentiality on all aspects of care and your work within the home, including when you are using
Social networking systems
d. To have a working knowledge of the homes policies and procedures in respect to your job.
e. To assist residents with personal care which includes: using the bath, bed bath or shower: foot and nail care: shampooing hair: grooming and all toiletry needs: combing or brushing hair: mouth care: denture care: preparing for bed: getting out of bed, washing and dressing. Supporting them to be socially presentable to their own standards of appearance at all times
f. To ensure that service users have any aids e.g. - Dentures, Hearing Aids, Spectacles etc fitted, cleaned and in
working order
g. Supporting residents with engagement and activities, this includes participating in social activities with service users and to use all interactions with residents as an opportunity for stimulation/ occupation.
h. To pay due respect to service users' possessions and to ensure that bedrooms and communal areas are tidy
and presentable
i. To provide Palliative and end of life care in line with residents care plans or advanced decisions.
j. Assist with serving meals and other domestic duties you are qualified to undertake.
k. Be on standby to answer call bells promptly, emergency bells, greet visitors, answering the telephone and door.
l. Complete all food and fluid charts and any other daily monitoring records as requested
m. To report any accidents or unexplained injuries immediately to the person in charge
n. To report to the Person in Charge any changes in individual service user’s condition and any other relevant
matter, noting especially and changes in skin condition.
o. To report any concerns re possible abuse of service users immediately to the person in charge
p. To report to the Person in Charge any verbal concerns or complaints raised by the service user or visitors.
q. Ensuring care notes and any other form of written report that affects your work are read and kept up to date.
r. Take part in staff meetings and internal and external training as required.
