In this role, you will collaborate with a Senior DBA and a team to design, develop, and document solutions for both on-premise OLAP systems using SQL Server and cloud-native data stores in Azure, such as Data Lake Gen 2, Azure SQL Clusters, and Azure Synapse SQL pools.

Your responsibilities will involve:

• Designing and implementing Azure OLAP solutions, which include creating data models, cubes, dimensions, measures, and calculations.
• Working closely with Data Engineering and SQLDEV teams to ensure smooth integration of data from Azure Data Lakes into databases on Azure.
• Monitoring and optimizing the performance of environments, both on-premises and in Azure, by identifying and addressing performance bottlenecks.

Additionally, you'll contribute to enhancing data pipeline architecture and performance, auditing and improving the performance of databases and data lakes, and advancing tools, automation, and monitoring capabilities.

You will also stay informed about emerging trends in database technologies, analyzing both SMP and MPP databases, various Data Lake table formats, and Data Lake-based analytics to identify opportunities for the organization.

Your role will involve advocating for Infrastructure as Code practices through standardized deployments, scaling, and teardowns using technologies like ARM templates and PowerShell modules. Event-driven monitoring and alerts will be part of your responsibilities as well.

You will play a crucial role in establishing the organization's Data Catalog, which will extract information from the Data Lake and other downstream systems to provide data lineage, metadata, and master data insights across the entire bank.

Additionally, you'll maintain lower environment (test, dev) data in synchronization with production environments while ensuring that personally identifiable information (PII) is masked. Your role will also involve automating data deletion and anonymization tasks to align with GDPR regulations.

SQL Server: In order to provide valuable, business lead insights, you’ll be using SQL to build databases whilst you query, manage and manipulate vast amounts of data.

Python: Your role will involve close collaboration with the Data Engineering team during the integration of pipelines, which are predominantly written in Python a basic level of understanding would be required.

Azure Cloud: Given the significant migration activities underway within Azure, it's crucial to have a strong command of the environment, particularly concerning monitoring and optimizing performance.

Best Practices: We want this individual to drive and implement the Azure best practices across the team. This includes being an SME and documenting the implementation changes.

PowerShell: Proficiency in PowerShell is essential for the role, as it serves as a key tool for driving automation within the database team.
