The Database Administrator is responsible for day-to-day database administration, production system support, and database-related requests, in a Microsoft SQL Server environment. This includes installation and upgrading SQL Server software as well as monitoring, tuning, and reporting on the SQL Server environment. The Database Administrator participates in projects and information architecture development. The Database administrator may also install and perform limited administration of packages that interact with SQL Server databases.
Install, tune, maintain, and upgrade SQL Server installations. This includes clustered environments.
Monitor the health of the SQL Server environment. Includes disk space management, memory optimization, indexing, security, and backups.
Provide documentation on the SQL Server environment.
Emergency support in the event of server crashes, deadlocks, and process blocking. Database recovery.
Provide user support with query tuning and optimization.
Support installation/upgrades of software packages that work with SQL Server databases (e.g. Marketing software) and provide administrative support for these packages as required.
Support systems development and system architecture development/design by acting as subject matter expert in databases and servers.
Perform ad hoc code development, maintenance, and testing as required
Minimum 5 years experience designing, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting SQL Server database environments.
Familiar with TSQL and SSIS.
Good interpersonal skills
Good problem-solving skills
Post-secondary degree/diploma required, preferably in Information Technology
SQL Server certification as an asset
