Job description
About us
We are Direct Line Group – home to some of the country's best-known brands including Direct Line, Churchill, Privilege, Greenflag, Darwin and NIG. Our vision is to create a world where insurance is personal, inclusive, and a force for good, and our purpose is to help people carry on with their lives, giving them peace of mind now and in the future.
Darwin is an insurance start-up within the DLG group, meaning we get the best of both worlds – a start-up culture and the ability to move fast with the latest technology, and access to a large quantity of insurance data for our data scientists to create value.
We care about providing the best price for our customers by using the latest technology to create an efficient, adaptable, and agile business.
The Role:
We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join our Motor Insurance Pricing team. We are open to considering highly skilled Data Scientists with no previous insurance experience or expert Pricing Practitioners who have personal lines experience and can demonstrate a desire to develop into a Data Scientist.
In this role, you will be responsible for using statistical and machine learning techniques to analyze and model insurance data. You will work closely with actuaries, underwriters, and data scientists to understand the drivers of loss and to develop pricing models that accurately reflect risk and customer behaviours, as well as seek out new opportunities to apply data science techniques to insurance.
N.B This role can be based anywhere in the UK and mainly at home, with some adhoc travel to our Leeds/London hubs.
What you'll need:
- Experience in data science in any field or a pricing role within insurance
- Master's/PhD or professional certificates in a quantitative field
-
Either or both:
- Strong experience with statistical and machine learning techniques
- Experience with insurance pricing or actuarial modelling
- Python (candidates with experience in other programming languages will also be considered)
- Experience with AWS Sagemaker (or other cloud platforms) is an advantage
Ways of Working
