Birmingham, West Midlands (with hybrid working)
We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Scientist to join our team in Birmingham where you will play a key role in our newly established Data Innovation Hub. You will be responsible for leading analysis on a range of data projects to generate meaningful insight and evidence to add value to the work of our organisation. By collaborating with colleagues, you will help identify projects for data to be used in new ways within our organisation answer our priority questions.

Your role will also involve:
- Working to democratise data analytics at all levels of the organisation and help educate colleagues in use and interpretation of data.
- Analysing large databases from various sources of structured and unstructured data, whilst recommending and implementing the most effective analytical approaches to achieve our goals.
- Working with the Senior Data Engineer to establish and define data requirements, ETL processes and tools and storage needs for data.
- Communicating the findings of your analysis and supporting colleagues to use these insights to inform their work.
- Translating technical data to simple language and giving recommendations and conclusions to colleagues.
- Developing interactive dashboards and other data products which help maximise the value we can derive from data.
This is a hybrid role, therefore there will be a requirement to attend our Birmingham Office.
Person specification
- Great interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work with others to identify how data can help solve problems in a wide range of policy or operational contexts.
- Ability to think creatively about the most effective analytical approaches to solve problems and explain the rational for your preferred approach to non-technical colleagues.
- Proficiency in designing algorithms and using statistical and problem structuring methods.
- Proficiency in programming, ideally Python or R.
- Experience using Microsoft Power BI.
- Experience in data visualisation and presenting data in graph or pictorial format.
- BA / BSc in a STEM field, or any other highly numerical degree.

- Salary of up to £45,000 per annum depending on skills and experience
- Civil service pension, with an employer contribution rate of 27%
