Job description
Work side by side with the Senior Data Scientist and the Data Strategy and Analytics team to develop and deliver advanced analytics and data science products to support Supply Ontario’s current and future business needs.
Reporting to the Director, Data Strategy and Analytics, you will build and apply data analysis algorithms (data mining, statistics, machine learning, natural language processing, sentiment analysis, text mining, etc.) and perform analysis of structured and unstructured data by utilizing statistical techniques and mathematical analysis.
In this role, your key responsibilities will include:
Liaising with stakeholders to discuss business reporting requirements and data specifications; converting business requirements into technical specifications for data integration and reports.
Working with the Senior Data Scientist to develop requirements and technical specification documents if required.
Leveraging a mixture of data science methods (e.g., SVM, neural nets, decision trees, and regression models, etc.) to support the delivery of predictive analytics solutions.
Creating data visualizations to summarize the insights discovered during data analysis and communicating them to internal team members and stakeholders.
Making recommendations for the introduction of new procedures, techniques and/or standards.
Successful candidates will demonstrate the following:
Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Information Systems, or related field.
4-5 years demonstrated and proven of experience in data mining, analysis, and visualization with the ability to identify and present actionable insights from data.
Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing large datasets (Excel, SPSS, SAS etc.)
Knowledge and understanding in machine learning and deep learning methods, including familiarity with techniques in clustering, classification, regression, optimization, recommendation, natural language processing.
Ability to identify effective, relevant statistical and/or mathematical methods to solve complex business problems.
Ability to communicate results of advanced analytic solutions in clear business terms to clients and senior decision makers.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to develop technical documentation; explain technical and complex details to non-technical staff.
