About the Role :
We are looking to bring in a data scientist to our small but growing data team. You will work on data science activities in the end-to-end creation and maintenance of our proprietary algorithms.
You will get to work on an innovative product which combines the experience of renowned scientists, award winning musicians and leading psychologists from institutions including Harvard, Edinburgh University and University College London (UCL).
Job Type: Full time (36 hours per week)
Location: UK based (remote working with occasional meetups)

Responsibilities :
- Design, build and execute data collection and data manipulation pipelines required to build and operate the Cantine suite of tools.
- Perform feature extraction and feature engineering from audio files and other sources required to train and deploy our predictive models.
- Apply a range of standard and advanced data science algorithms to train, validate and implement the Cantine model suite.
- Perform model monitoring, providing key performance indicators to inform the need for new models or new data.
- Support the engineering team in accurate implementation of the models and their downstream use in the Cantine product suite.
- Support the wider data science team in providing business-focussed insight.
- Perform analysis to support commercial initiatives.
- Clearly communicate progress, requirements, and report results.
- Play a foundational role in building the data culture of Cantine.
We are looking for someone who has :
- 2+ years professional experience in a data science discipline in one or more commercial sectors.
- Minimum 2.1 degree in a scientific/mathematical discipline (STEM)
- Preferably an MSc or other postgraduate degree in a quantitative discipline
- Experience in several predictive modelling and machine learning techniques.
- An inquisitive mind and is a practical problem solver.
- Strong communication skills, who can easily and quickly understand the needs of different audiences.
- Ability to interact with individuals from a diverse professional background, including music, psychology, engineering and business.
Key Skills:
- Deep knowledge of a range of supervised and unsupervised ML methods.
- Good understanding of statistical concepts such as sample size calculation, confidence interval estimation and hypothesis testing.
- Proficient user of Python. Optional use of R
- Experience in data visualization tools, e.g., Tableau, Streamlit or R Shiny
- Ability to think through problems creatively and independently
- Curiosity to explore new models and ways of interpreting data
- Ability to document work, summarize concepts and present progress
Bonus Points for :
- Experience of applying data science to the fields of music, psychology and emotion.
- Experience in image processing and feature extraction.
