Job description

Description

As a data-driven and tech-enabled business, our Data team at Bricklane is instrumental in helping us to identify and monitor areas across the UK with an unmet need for quality rental homes, as well as finding the right properties to acquire at scale within these areas. This is achieved with a combination of machine learning (ML) based solutions that feed into our daily operations, along with crucial market insights delivered to strategic decision makers.
As a Data Scientist, you’ll play a crucial role in i.) designing, implementing, and deploying new analytical and ML based capabilities and processes; ii.) supporting the team in monitoring and maintaining the performance of our existing suite of data products and iii.) generating new insights about the UK property market, helping to drive strategic decision making by communicating these insights to senior leadership and our client partners.
After 12 months in this role you will have developed your analytical thinking, worked with new programming techniques and concepts, incorporated elements of CICD in deploying and maintaining your code in production, and also developed new ML powered data products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Exploring housing and rental market data to help Bricklane make better, more efficient investment decisions.
  • Developing new ML powered capabilities that boost the effectiveness of our Property Valuations and Acquisitions teams.
  • Contributing to our Data Science capability by creating new datasets and capabilities that can be reused and repurposed.
  • Responding to requests for market insights - for use by our senior leadership team and client partners.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Good experience using SQL to efficiently manipulate data at scale.
  • Experience with programming for data science (eg. Python, R).
  • 2 years’ experience in a Data Science or analytical role.
  • Degree in a quantitative field (e.g. Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science etc.).
  • Analytical thinker - you’re naturally curious, enjoy exploring datasets and take an analytical approach to solving problems.
The points listed above are guidelines rather than rules. If you feel your expertise and experience don't tick all of the boxes but you could add value in this role at Bricklane, please apply as we welcome all applications.

We'll do everything to support you during your application and we're happy to make any adjustments to our recruitment process if needed. If you accept an invitation to interview with us, we'll ask you about that then.

Benefits

Holiday: 25 days annual leave + 1 extra day around Christmas.

Flexibility: We love working from our brand new office in Old Street but we do support partial remote working, if that's best for you. There is also the opportunity to work remotely from overseas for 3 weeks at a time.
