Business Analytics Data Scientist - Supply Planning

Beam Suntory has committed to a 5-stage Global Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) Process to support the new Brand House Operating model.


This Data Analytics and Data Scientist role on the Global Production Planning team requires a background in Sales & Operations Planning (Integrated Business Planning - IBP) with experience within a Supply Chain functional area. The role includes heavy data analytics married with data scientist skills to support the Global SC key business deliverables and Beam’s S&OP journey. This Data Scientist will be self-motivated and exhibit excellent critical thinking skills, the ability to synthesize complex problems and create solutions. The ideal candidate will have more than just knowledge or data scientist skill sets, as they also have a “can do" and “we over me” mindset to find solutions. This position will collaborate with the Supply Planning Analytics, S&OP CoE and Leadership, Regional S&OP teams, IT, and Commercial in the Business Units across all three global regions to support the data and analytics needs for the implementation of the business transformation programs.


Role Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Global Production Planning teams to provide analytics and technical solutions support the day-to-day planning processes
  • Partner with Global S&OP functional areas (Supply Planning, Commercial, and Fulfillment) to optimize our processes as part of the Global Supply Planning team
  • Implement process improvement initiatives that drive improvements to the metrics and streamline the Supply Chain
  • Utilize a diverse array of technologies and tools as needed, to deliver insights, optimize processes, and develop automation
  • Manage the analytics platform, build capabilities, support global user adoption of analytics and process adherence, develop, and maintain technical documentation, work closely with IT for Data Engineering
  • Work closely with the technical community to drive an SAP IBP team of business users globally, allowing for internal problem-solving capabilities, a high degree of end-user acceptance
  • Partner with the business to understand the market segmentation strategies and develop visualization, models using machine learning (e.g., classification, clustering, regression) incorporating ABC-XYZ segmentation, and statistical analysis methods such as time-series analysis, statistical inference
  • Core participant in the design, build, test, document, and training of technical solutions supporting the core planning Supply Chain processes
  • Design and integrate a global Inventory Management strategy to provide end-to end Supply Chain visibility to Deep dive large into demand/supply planning and supply chain data to explain change, develop insights, and provide business recommendations to improve attainment, adherence, inventory management, and other key metrics.
  • Support all operational and strategic activities and initiatives for the Global Production Planning team
  • Perform exploratory data analyses, generate and test working hypotheses, prepare and analyze historical data, and identify patterns
  • Process structured, unstructured, and semi-structured data and apply data cleaning, data imputation and feature engineering methods before developing models

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree or equivalent experience in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Statistics, Applied Mathematics
  • 3+ years of experience with at least 2+ years of experience in a supply chain discipline with demonstrated end-to-end understanding of Supply Chain interdependencies for a CPG or Spirits company
  • Strong problem solving, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills across multiple levels of the organization
  • Communications and presenting to multiple levels within the organization
  • Experience with S&OP Planning tools like SAP IBP, SAP APO (DP and SNP) highly preferred
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform, SAP HANA strongly preferred
  • Strong experience with Python/R, SQL, Power BI, Tableau
  • Strong experience with developing visualizations through Tableau or Power BI to deliver solutions to end users
  • Demonstrated flexibility in easily moving between strategic thinking and tactical execution
