Are you ready to take flight into the world of data-driven decision-making? British Airways, a leader in the aviation, is seeking a skilled and motivated Data Scientist to join our Operations team!

As a Data Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in developing data-driven models that drive strategic decision-making within the Operations directorate. Your mission will be to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of these models, facilitating the efficient choices that supply to the achievement of our business goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop quantitative and qualitative models to assess business implications, evaluate scenarios, and present insightful recommendations.
  • Build new metrics, reports, dashboards, and models using historical data and predictive analytics to enrich decision-making information.
  • Deepen your understanding of complex business processes, translating analytical results into actionable insights.
  • Drive the initiation of new projects by identifying key issues, scoping analysis, and delivering valuable insights.
  • Manage your project portfolio independently, adhering to project and time management best practices.
  • Align your work with established frameworks, architectural principles, and peer review processes.
  • Challenge and influence decision-makers through data-backed insights.
  • Cultivate and sustain relationships with stakeholders, ensuring successful project delivery and outcomes.
  • Create a culture of continuous improvement by sharing best practices and staying updated on data science advancements.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Strong communication skills, adept at communicating complex topics and influencing business decisions.
  • Effective use of challenging and influencing techniques with stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to independently manage and deliver projects with high quality and timeliness.
  • Excellent partnership and feedback incorporation skills.
  • Willingness to share knowledge and collaborate across the analyst community.
  • Proficiency in diverse analytical tools and modeling techniques, including SQL, SAS, Python, or R.
  • Ability to write well-structured SQL queries and prototype new metrics.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly in Excel.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A numerate degree with a significant focus on data science, advanced analytics, or operational research, or equivalent experience.
  • Prior experience applying analytical skills in data science or operational research.
  • In-depth knowledge of a specific business area, coupled with a proven understanding of BA's business plan and industry landscape.
  • Awareness of competitors and external factors influencing the aviation industry.
