Data Governance Officer, Legal (up to £50,000)

About the role
We are looking for a thoughtful, commercially-minded person to take up a role which will be central to the way that our business manages data.
The successful candidate will have experience of working with multiple data systems, preparing responses to Subject Access Requests, Data Protection Impact Assessments and Legitimate Interest Assessments and will have worked in a role which combines helping an organisation to meet its commercial ambitions with using data in a way that complies with law, guidance and industry best practice.
The person in this role will liaise with many stakeholders within our business and so the ability to build strong relationships is critical.
As a Data Governance Officer you will;
- have initial responsibility for receiving and processing data subject access requests, liaising with the business to ensure they are answered appropriately and within statutory timescales
- work with colleagues and third party suppliers as required to prepare Data Protection Impact Assessments, including for the Children’s Code and the use of Special Category Data
- work with colleagues to prepare Legitimate Interest Assessments
- assist the business with devising and adhering to a data retention policy
- work with colleagues in our Infosec team to ensure that new suppliers have appropriate data processes and safeguards in place
- attend the data steering and data operations groups, contributing and note-taking
- maintain, review and regularly updating the data register
- attend meetings and being part of projects as required to provide specialist knowledge and expertise to ensure data protection by design at all levels e.g. security and privacy requirements for new ICT systems.
- provide support and guidance to the colleagues throughout the business in carrying out their data protection responsibilities
- maintain and manage our data mapping ecosystem – ensuring there is a clearly defined set of documents that show data flows across the business
- work with teams across the business to ensure data capture, control and targeting is applied and governed correctly
- train and educate teams within our business on Immediate’s approach to privacy and data controls
Requirements
- Working knowledge of data protection legislation including GDPR and PECR
- Experience in a commercial organisation
- Experience in an information governance role
- Experience in a customer-facing role
- Able to work with colleagues and third party suppliers in a warm, helpful and productive way
- Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Excellent written communication skills
- Organised and thorough approach to workload and meticulous record keeping
- The ability to meet deadlines in scope and on time
