Job description
Working closely with the entire Data Operations team, you will be responsible for the migration of ETL processes and data warehouses to the cloud environment. The ETL processes in question range from the Tableau Reporting data sources, through to operationally critical functions that maintain our campaign offer cycles and MID matching.
You will help scope and design our data warehouses and supporting ETL processes. You will also help define the data sources needed to build Tableau dashboards and take ownership of the ETL development from beginning to end.
You will develop quality assurance processes and provide a range of regular and ad hoc deliverables to support the business needs and operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Work alongside the Database Analysts to produce efficient and clean SQL code, ETL processes, and reporting data sources
- Work with the Tableau Developers to determine the data requirements for Tableau Dashboards, and work towards creating the data sources in an automated manner
- Take the lead in the design and implementation of our data warehouses and data lakes in our environments in AWS, to allow access to an ever-growing pool of data in an efficient and scalable manner
- Offer QA and peer review support to the other Database Analysts in the team
- Seek practical solutions to data problems to reduce time and cost through automation
- Coordinate activities with staff across multiple teams, maintaining awareness of events that may impact deliverables
- Carry out systematic data cleansing and enhancement exercises
- Undertake regular and ad hoc activities including data provision, report development and exploratory data analysis
- Provide clear and concise documentation
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
- Minimum 3-4 years experience working with a significant (500,000+) customer relational database
- Strong understanding of logical relational database concepts (including data types, joins, sub-queries, primary and foreign keys, normalisation, indexing)
- Experience of Microsoft SQL Server technologies including Reporting Services (SSRS) and Integration Services (SSIS) and/or Analysis Services (SSAS)
- Ability to translate requirements sourced from non-technical clients into effective technical specifications
- Proven ability to produce process documentation that is clear, logically structured and accurate
Bonus points for any of the following:
- Advanced knowledge of MS Excel including complex formulae, advanced charting, lookups, PowerPivot and VBA
- Working knowledge of Cloud technologies, preferably AWS
- Comfortable working with a BI tool, such as Tableau or Power BI
- Domain expertise in any of the following: retail, personal banking, direct marketing, digital marketing, CRM, loyalty programmes
