What is the opportunity?
Wealth Management Digital and Data Transformation is responsible for developing and implementing a data and analytics strategy that delivers data reporting key insights to Senior Management, Advisors and supporting functions across RBC Wealth Management. The team leverages deep experience in design, data engineering, programming, business strategy, data science, and visualization techniques to support its goal of empowering the organization with actionable insights to drive its ongoing success.
Within WM DDT, the Data Engineering team is responsible for driving data reporting as well as advanced insight and innovation for the Wealth Management business by leveraging emergent big-data technologies, data engineering techniques, and data sources from across Wealth Management and RBC.
This Data Engineering role is an opportunity to perform product development, programming, ETL and database work in support of Data Science, Data Reporting & Visualization, and Product Development functions within a small team using technologies including but not limited to SQL Server, AWS, Python, C#, SSIS, AWS, Windows, Linux, and the Apache Hadoop ecosystem.
What will you do?
Design, develop, implement and support our emerging big data analytics capabilities through the development and maintenance of advanced data ingestion, processing, modeling and reporting capabilities.
Design and implement new or enhanced data processes or tools.
Ensure that your work is well-documented and developed in conjunction with other data engineers and the Data Visualization and Data Science teams.
Assist in current day-to-day support activities of Data Engineering, Data Visualization and Data Science teams, including generating reporting data sets for business users and senior management using Tableau, Web-based, or other delivery methods.
Be a part of a start-up like setting where fast-fail is highly valued, level of uncertainty is high and requirements are not all defined in advance.
The work is for someone interested in computer science, data, application and ETL development.
What do you need to succeed?
Must have
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related quantitative discipline (e.g., Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics)
3+ years’ proven experience in database design, data manipulation and/or a software engineering role using SQL Server or similar RDBMS environments, including stored procedures, views, and ETL processes (Extract, Transform, Load).
Experience developing complex SQL queries in order to generate data sets for our data science and data reporting & visualization teams.
Experience using cloud-enabled technologies such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), specifically S3, Athena, EMR, RDS, or other AWS database related products.
Drive to ensure data quality throughout all stages of acquisition and processing, including data sourcing/collection, normalization, and transformation.
Demonstrated knowledge of advanced SQL and at least one procedural/object-oriented programming language (Python, C, C#, Java, etc.).
Nice-to-have
Experience with big data analytics technologies (e.g. Hadoop, Spark, Kafka); experience compiling, manipulating and analyzing large datasets, with a good understanding of data processing frameworks.
Experience developing SQL Server Integration Services.
Programming experience in Unix shell scripting.
Expertise in Microsoft Excel.
