About LBG

We are looking to evolve our Data Analytics and AI capability in Cloud Services, where we enhance the platform offering to enable the exploitation of data and analytics in the public cloud. This will mean leveraging Google Cloud Platform capabilities, products and services.
About the role
Data Engineer
The Group People & Places Data Hub is the central Data & Analytics function for the P&P division. As a Data Engineer, you'll have hands-on responsibility for the acquisition, profiling, design, curation, validation, improvement and manipulation of People and Places data used for LBG enterprise consumption. You will have a real passion for data combining next generation cloud technology with Colleague data and insight.

What we’re looking for:
A track record of hands-on Data Management is a must, as are a “can-do” attitude, tech savvy, and having an inquisitive growth mindset. Using strong problem-solving skills and a combination of technical knowledge, experience and judgement to identify available options and follow-through to a successful outcome.
Essential skills & experience:
  • Experience with Data Build Tool (DBT) and YAML or other industry ETL tools and solutions
  • Experience of prior programming, ideally Python, SQL, Java and/or other open-source technologies
  • End-to-end data management life-cycle from requirements & data acquisition to industrialising solutions within a managed service
  • A growth mindset and willingness to learn and leverage new and emerging technology.
  • Strong creative and conceptual thinker, but ability to keep it simple.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite
Highly Desirable:
  • Recent hands-on use of Collibra toolset for enterprise business and technical metadata management
  • Experience with Jenkins, Github , Jira, Confluence and other tools for automation and workflow management
  • Use of message passing architectures, ideally pub/sub
  • Previous experience of data curation and consumption design used for AI, Machine Learning and Advanced/Deep Analytics
  • Hands-on recent experience of Data Quality profiling and treatments, Coding Standards, Version control, sustainable rested data efficiencies and/or performance tuning (e.g. Indexing)
  • Practical experience working with a broad set of Google Cloud products & services, including BigQuery
  • Certified in Google Cloud Platform, with Associate Cloud Engineer and/or Professional Data Engineer certification (or a willingness to progress at pace once in role)
  • Innovative - constantly looking for new ways of solving problems and delivering more efficient solutions, especially using automation and DevOps methodologies. Will champion/challenge the status quo to improve the service and consumer experience.
  • Passion for software and data engineering, adopting the mindset of a curious and resilient engineer that safeguard our data from security threats.
  • Adopting an ‘automation first’ approach with a passion for driving efficiency and a focus on reducing risk within
  • Effective inter-personal communication skills and ability to adapt to working with others
Desirable
  • Banking or Financial services background
  • Working in a large matrix organisation, delivering in both traditional fast path Waterfall and Agile methodologies
  • An active interest in new technologies with an awareness of developments and trends within the data internal / external landscape
