Job Description:

We are looking for a cloud engineer who will contribute to driving the adoption and consumption of cloud technologies within the data team. The role will support the central data team to generate insights from our data that comes from all areas of our business, from retail, central leadership, merchandising and logistics.

This role will suit an engineer who is willing to become a subject matter expert in our cloud data infrastructure hosted on GCP and Azure.

You will be working in a multidisciplinary team, alongside data engineers, BI developers and subject matter experts to develop data solutions that deliver value to our stakeholders.

You will be expected to be involved in all aspects of the data analytics pipeline infrastructure. From getting data from source systems to the data flows and the end reporting / data products.

As a cloud engineer within the data team, you will have a good understanding of BI tools, SQL and data analysis techniques. You will be technically confident and be able to engage with other IT teams and business users.

A typical week could include:

  • Support the Central Data function by managing and developing initiatives to improve and build upon the existing data analytics platform
  • Applying cloud strategies to current data workloads - collaborating with the data teams and wider infrastructure teams
  • Work with analysts, data engineers, business stakeholders and leadership to identify analytical needs and requirements
  • Re-engineering existing data products and migrating to the new data platform.
  • Work with the business users, peers and architects to develop data analytics solutions
  • Bridge the gap between development teams
  • Help manage the cloud environments in accordance with company development and security guidelines
  • Work on ways to automate and improve development and release processes
  • Championing cloud technologies and initiatives
  • Interact with team members and business users
  • Peer review of analytical products
  • Troubleshoot incidents and help implement preventive measures
  • Liaise with existing infrastructure teams to ensure the benefits of cloud are being fully leveraged in a manner that works for both cloud and on-premise teams.
  • Ensure that cloud technologies are deployed in line with security best practices.

Experience, Skills and Knowledge:

  • Experience of working within a data analytics team (Ideally 1+ years)
  • Strong experience in a technical environment with GCP experience
    • Compute engine
    • Cloud functions / microservices
    • Apps engine
    • Containerised development
  • Proficiency in database languages, such as SQL, against large datasets
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Understanding of version control (preferably Git and SVN)
  • Python - developing apps and scripts in python; using frameworks such as Flask and FastAPI
  • ETL tool experience, especially in a cloud context.
  • Data curious, aware of how to use data effectively and aware of new /emerging trends in the data analytics space.

Prefered experience:

  • Experience of data analytics within a retail organisation
  • Supply chain and logistics knowledge
  • Experience GCP data products
  • Javascript knowledge (especially React)
  • Understanding of broad data analytics methodologies; data science, data storytelling, data products
  • Familiarity with Matillion or SSIS tools
