Purpose

InterGen are seeking a talented graduate to join our twoyear data and analytics programmefor a unique opportunity to build strong data experience in a dynamic energytrading environment and develop technical skills that will provide a fantasticplatform for a career in the data space.

The Rotations

Whilst on the programme, you will rotate across three roleswithin the Data and Analytics team. This is a 24-month rotational programmeincluding:

Fundamentals (months1-3): this first three month period is essential for new graduates toattain the requisite skills to contribute to projects throughout InterGen. Inthis period the graduate will:

  • go through company on-boarding
  • learn about InterGen - its departments, culture, teams, tools, and revenue centres
  • learn about the energy system and power market basics
  • take training courses in SQL, Python, and Azure

Rotation 1 - DataEngineering (months 4-9): all data roles require datasets and managing,accessing, moving, and curating these datasets is the role of the dataengineer. In this rotation the graduate will:

  • contribute to ongoing data engineering and data platform projects
  • get exposure to a data ingestion project - bringing data in from an external source
  • work with downstream data users and stakeholders to achieve their goals by adapting or creating data pipelines and storage systems
  • work with the data quality, catalogue, lineage and reporting tooling to understand where InterGens data is and how to use it
  • build solutions using Azure
  • undertake further training in Azure


Rotation 2 - DataAnalytics (months 10-15):
help ourData team answer the question what does the data tell us, what happened, andwhy? This role requires taking businessquestions and turning them into either one off reports or dashboards. In thisrotation you will:

  • be introduced to the Power BI reporting development processes
  • contribute to the maintenance and development of Power BI reports
  • take a project from business question, through to data exploration, and report delivery to answer questions from a business sponsor
  • Work with the data engineering and data science teams to uncover data and insights relevant to the end users
  • undergo training in Power BI


Rotation 3 - DataScience (months 16-21):
data scientists work with advanced modellingtechniques, statistics and computational resources to uncover patterns indatasets. These insights can then be used to generate enhanced predictivecapabilities using automation and machine learning. In this rotation they will:

  • take a project from business case and question formation, through exploration, hypothesis testing, all the way to model development and presenting their findings
  • where applicable they will get hands on with their own model deployment, supported by InterGens data engineering and development teams
  • examine InterGens existing data science efforts contribute to them
  • undergo basic data science and machine learning training


Rotation 4 -Specialisation (months 22-24):
This final three month period allows thegraduate to continue some of the work from the previous rotations to selecttheir specialisation. This will be a strong indicator for the type of role theyshould move into once theyve completed the program. They should in this time:

  • complete another self-guided project, owned by them (with support from the wider data team)
  • outline their continual development plan, identifying and taking ownership of their training as they grow (in agreement with their manager/technical mentor)

Who we are looking for?


We arelooking for inquisitive people with an enthusiasm to build a career in data andan ability to work within a dynamic setting. Coding/development experience isnot essential but is preferred, as is a passion for data. The graduate rolewill require successful candidates to be based in the Edinburgh office,however, hybrid working is available.


Thesuccessful candidates will be demonstrate excellent problem solving skills andenthusiasm to explore new opportunities. Working within a small organisationlike InterGen means exposure to a wide variety of areas so you should beadaptable and open to exploring different topics.


Requirements


We arelooking for graduates who are educated to degree level, preferably in ascientific or numerical subject but as long as you can demonstrate problemsolving abilities, we will consider applicants with other relevant experienceand degree backgrounds.

Throughout the graduate programme training and development will betailored to your requirements and placement needs. We aim to developwell-rounded individuals with practical work skill ready to take your nextcareer steps after the programme completes.

Graduateswill be assigned a mentor and buddy to help them integrate into the businessand progress through their rotations. You will also be part of graduatecommunity which will include those currently on the programme and those whohave completed it, benefiting from their experiences during and after thescheme.
