Job description

As part of the Data and Analytics Team within our talented Information Services department, you will be accountable for supporting the organization’s reporting and analytics requirements. Your responsibilities will include BI report design and development, as well as supporting data management and analytics. Your leadership translating data from a variety of sources into actionable insights plays a significant role in contributing to our mission of mobilizing collective action to create pathways out of poverty in the Edmonton area. This is a Temporary role ending December 2025.

About the role:

In the Temporary, full-time role, you will be able to apply your passion for data and analytics, and support our purpose in our community. You will drive efficiency and service excellence through the insights your reporting and analysis provides, collaborating and liaising with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that our current and future analytical needs are being met, align in alignment with our data standardization practices and data management methodologies, in order to achieve a united analytics strategy.

Collaborating with teams across the organization, you will help develop and support a growing library of dashboard reports and other analysis, as well as data architecture discussion, design and implementation. You will also contribute to mapping organizational analytic requirements to implementation, selecting and deploying analytical technologies and reporting developing a cohesive measurement and reporting framework for the organization. The role leverages knowledge of the organization’s information, application, and infrastructure environment as well as the current technology landscape to design and develop optimized analytics solutions.

The Day to Day:

  • Supports data architecture discussion, design and implementation, participating and consulting in the design of the integration and architecture of analytics solutions.
  • Supports data governance efforts in the standardization of data definition, development of data models, data quality and ownership practices.
  • Collaborates with project managers and key stakeholders on projects involving organizational data.
  • Identifies, analyzes, quantifies and recommends effective data pointers and recommendations based on measurable insights and optimizations.
  • Designs and enriches data pipelines to combine multiple data sources as to leverage post and real time reporting.
  • Develops automated, scalable reporting, analytics solutions, and predictive model reporting for key business operations.
  • Configures and supports the Microsoft Azure Modern Data Warehouse architecture with the ability to manage all aspects of the data lifecycle from discovery, ingestion, storage, cataloging, to reporting and analytics. This also involves ensuring reports and data is available to other applications and key stakeholders.
  • Expertly leverages data and visualization tools including SQL, Excel, and PowerBI, among others, to present actionable insights.
  • Works with internal and external partners and UWC’s to align data standardization practices and open data methodologies in order to achieve a united analytics strategy.

About you:

You are eager to make a difference and apply your creativity and analytical thinking skills and data analysis expertise to this role. You have strong design sensibilities, know how to tell a compelling story through data visualization, and have experience building dynamic and engaging dashboards using Power BI. You have a customer service focus and can-do attitude, are outcomes driven, and approach situations with empathy and collaboration. Thinking creatively, staying organized, and building relationships is how you thrive, working independently or as part of a team. You love operating in a digital environment and are proficient with MS Office (we use Office 365 – MS Teams, SharePoint), and enjoy learning and using new technology.

You are currently enrolled or have completed post-secondary diploma or degree in Data Analytics, Computer Programming or related field, and a minimum of six (6) months to two (2) years of related experience. You have a portfolio of report design examples you can share, and proven experience in data analysis and reporting including DAX and Power BI. Experience with programming in SQL and/or Python is an asset, as is experience with the Azure and Databricks platforms. Knowledge of the Salesforce CRM and/or Oracle Netsuite ERP systems would also be an asset in this role. Equivalent combinations of education and lived experience will be considered.

  • (Starting salary based on experience and budgetary considerations)
