Job description
DOES DATA DO IT FOR YOU?! MOTIVATED BY MAKING A DIFFERENCE?
This certainly describes us, and we’re seeking like-minded data enthusiasts to join our friendly and aspirational team. As a consultancy with a strong social purpose, we’re not looking for just any data analyst though! We’re looking for a data analyst who can evidence exceptional analytical capability, but also one who shares our passion to positively improve people’s life chances through the creative use of data.
What you’ll be doing
Working closely with the rest of the consulting team you will analyse data to create accessible and visually appealing insights for a range of clients with a social purpose, ranging from schools and local authorities to charities and other not-for-profit organisations. Contributing to a wide variety of projects your typical responsibilities will include:
- Data analysis and visualisation for clients using a range of analysis tools, including Microsoft Excel, Tableau, Access and SQL
- Pulling out key findings from our analytical reports for our clients
- Manipulating and preparing data for web-based systems including the SEND Dashboard, Intelligent London, EYFS Tracker, Applied Learning Tracker and SS Tracker, as well as helping to develop the Mime Data Hub (our core information repository)
- Statistical analysis
- Research, for example interviewing stakeholders or desk research of academic papers
- Automating data processing tasks, for example through the use of Visual Basic for Applications (VBA)
- Other work on client facing projects. This will vary depending on the skills you bring, but may include report writing, design work and assistance with marketing
- Quality assuring work carried out by other members of the team to ensure that they meet Mime’s exceptional standards
- Supporting users of our analysis websites
What we’re looking for
We value talent and drive. As an entry or early career level role in our small commercial enterprise, we’re looking for a smart, motivated recent graduate with the following skills and qualities:
- An excellent level of academic attainment (First or 2:1) within a relevant quantitative degree discipline such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing or social sciences
- Great written and verbal communication skills, not only able to make sense of large data sets themselves, but also able to convey insights to those from less technical backgrounds
- Extremely well organised, able to juggle multiple demands on your time but retaining a meticulous attention to detail
- Self-motivated with the ability to pick up new ideas readily
- Ideally, you’ll have gained some work experience (perhaps an internship) within an analytical capacity, perhaps within a technical, consulting, educational or charity arena
- Good Microsoft Excel knowledge is an essential requirement, with experience of analytics and database tools/languages such as Tableau, Microsoft Access, SQL or other relational databases being desirable
- Coding experience is advantageous (e.g., Python, R or VBA), as would be experience of applied statistics, such as significance testing
- A keen eye for design in the effective presentation of data
