The Lethbridge Police Service is currently accepting applications for a full time term position of Data Analyst. The Data Analyst will be responsible for the production of strategic and statistical reports on behalf of the Lethbridge Police Service Executive. You will be responsible for research and review of information relevant to policing topics and the analysis of statistical data such as crime trends, staffing levels, workload and the collection and evaluation of performance indicators. You will interpret data; summarize relevant issues and present recommendations. You will be required to assist in the preparation of the LPS Annual Report, the LPS COMPSAT Program and the collection of statistical data and associated analysis in support of the LPS budget.

This temporary full-time position falls under the protection of a collective agreement associated to the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 70 contract. Wage: $39.88 per hour |2022 Rate.
Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week
(Flexible/Compressed Work Week is available)
As Data Analyst you will:
- You will be responsible for research and review of information relevant to policing topics and the analysis statistical data such as crime trends, staffing levels, workload analysis, collection and evaluation of performance indicators.
- You will interpret data; summarize relevant issues and present recommendations.
- You will be required to assist in the preparation of the LPS Annual Report, the LPS COMPSAT Program and the collection of statistical data and associated analysis in support of the LPS budget.
- Developing investigative related tactical analytical products including subject/location profiles, phone and/or GPS analysis, association charts, timelines and maps. Performing strategic analysis and suggesting points for focus, avenues of approach and courses of investigative action as identified.
- Develop validated reports on an issue or topic of significance in understanding and combating organized and serious crime.
- Conduct social network analysis.
- Performing advanced functions in collating, analyzing, and disseminating intelligence as required.
- Presenting developed intelligence in professional and public forums.
- Developing and preparing statistical reports and presentations.
- Liaising with various law enforcement and correctional agencies for intelligence sharing purposes.
- Managing and maintaining various databases.
- Performing offender management related duties.
- Assist in completing the Provincial Threat Assessment.
- Analyze large amounts of information to discover trends and patterns.
- Present information using data visualization techniques.
- Identify valuable data sources and automate collection processes.
- Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of data sources and data gathering techniques.
- Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze analysis performance and data accuracy.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
As the successful candidate, you will have:
- Ability to adapt to tight deadlines and changing priorities.
- Ability to work independently and within a group setting.
- Develop appropriate research designs and methodologies to ensure proper validity and reliability of research projects.
- An undergraduate degree in a related field of study (i.e. Social Services or Criminology, Computer Science, Statistics and Engineering).
- Knowledge of analytical methods and practices.
- Strong research capabilities.
- iBase experience will be considered an asset.
- Ability to produce a variety of professional analytical reports and presentations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in addition to the ability to work well in a team environment.
- Experience using statistical computer languages (R, Python, SQL, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
- Advanced knowledge of relational databases (e.g. MS SQL) and Geospatial Information Systems (e.g. ArcGIS).
- Experience using business intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau).
- Strong math skills (e.g. statistics, algebra).
- Significant knowledge in Geospatial Analysis, Temporal Analysis, Exploratory Analysis, and Clustering.
- Predictive analytics knowledge and experience including Machine Learning would be considered an asset.
The successful candidate is required to consent to a police security clearance, which includes the voluntary completion and submission of a personal disclosure form (lifestyle questionnaire), criminal and police records check, reference checks and truth verification through polygraph examination.

- Successful applicants will be contacted for a Behavioral Descriptive Interview
- Security Clearance Check will be conducted
- Successful completion of a Polygraph Examination Procedure (applicable to applicants outside LPS)
- Reference verification of a minimum of three professional references
- A successful candidate(s) will be selected and offered the position
- All components of the selection process will be administered, scored, evaluated and interpreted in a fair and uniform manner
- Duration of the hiring process may take approximately two months
