Go North East is the North East’s largest bus company and for over a century has been transporting people across the region. Overall, we have nearly 1500 employees and operate a fleet of over 600 vehicles.
Go North East’s small but busy Commercial Team is based at our head offices in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. The team work closely with the Go North East Directors to develop and implement plans to improve network design, fares and pricing, driver scheduling, and customer experience.
The Role
The right candidate for this role will carry out data analysis and produce reports that support the company’s commercial strategy. A motivated self-starter, the Data Analyst will be a person who is able to learn and adapt quickly, and who is comfortable working with large and multiple datasets; they will know how to clean, prepare, and analyse data, and present and discuss results of analysis concisely.
Key Accountabilities
- Producing reports that support the activities of other departments at Go North East and also external stakeholders, for example, weekly sales reports for our Finance Team and revenue reports for transport authorities for whom we operate contracted services
- Using and interpreting passenger volume and revenue data to support recommendations for price and fare revisions
- Use of passenger volume and route reliability data to support decisions about network design
- Producing analysis and datasets required for participation in regional and national transport initiatives, such as the £2 fare cap and the Bus Recovery Grant
- Supporting with maintenance of Go North East’s contract and revenue database
- Supporting the necessary technical work involved with fares and network changes.
Person Specification
- Degree-educated (minimum 2:2 in any relevant discipline where some quantitative analysis has been part of the degree programme) OR significant experience of data analysis in a voluntary or paid capacity
- Strong quantitative analytical skills and solutions-focused, with the confidence to lead on some data-driven commercial projects
- Significant experience handling and analysing data in Microsoft Excel
- Excellent attention to detail
- Computer-literate and able to quickly learn how to use new systems
- A self-starter who is motivated and has a desire to succeed
- The ability to explain data analysis confidently and articulately to a range of audiences.
