Our client are one of 14 distribution network operators in the UK regulated by Ofgem, with the majority of electricity entering their network from the National Grid.
They are responsible for maintaining and upgrading 13,000 km of overhead power lines and more than 44,000 km of underground electricity cables and much more. Job Description
Purpose of the role:
As the company becomes increasingly reliant on asset management systems to manage the businesses day to day operations and longer term investment decisions it is critical that all data systems are aligned and contain high quality data, and that the value can extracted from that data to drive business performance. This role will be critical to the management, delivery, support and use of all asset data systems through the provision of system expertise to support the efficient update of data systems, maintenance of data quality and the production of high quality data products for use within and outside the business
Principal accountabilities:
Data Quality Management

Develop, manage and maintain business rules and data quality checks across GIS, the asset register and Network Management System

Develop and maintain Data Hub operations manuals, guides and codes of practice
-
Develop and optimise business processes to ensure efficiency and quality in asset data updates across all asset data systems
-
Develop and implement analytical processes to identify and correct data errors within asset data systems

System Support
-
Manage support for asset data systems, including user account management (where appropriate) triage any technical issues that arise
-
Own the escalation of more complex/technical questions/issues to 2nd line and 3rd party support asset data systems
-
To design focus groups that relate to implementing business changes and present proposals within these groups
-
To deliver expert asset system knowledge Data Hub team members and help in resolving any front line decisions to any queries that arise
-
Develop, manage and implement configuration changes to asset data applications
-
Provide Subject Matter Expertise to innovation, IT and business change projects on matters relating to asset data and cross-system dependencies

To develop and deliver training to new Data Hub team members

Data Analysis

To provide specialist knowledge in order to build data extraction, data analysis and reporting

Develop new and novel date extraction processes and be able to produce and present specialist one off reports for the Business

To develop and manage processes to provide routine data products to end-users within and outside the business

External Engagement

Represent the company in technical forums with other organisations to shape data sharing requirements
Dimensions of the role:

The post holder will work as part of DSO Data Team with no direct reports
-
No direct budgetary responsibility

Provision of Subject Matter Expertise to drive business change and IT investment decisions
Key measures and targets (Performance Indicators):
Ability to manage own workload of principle activities, whilst being faced with tight timescales

Formulating and documenting policy and business processes to delivery efficient and high quality data for the business

Ability to plan and deliver small projects to ensure deadlines are met

Planning for the regular and timely collation of information and production of progress quality assurance reports and their application in a live management of the teams processes

Design and implement advanced cross system data reports using analytical software tools
-
To quickly react on a day to day basis to emergent demands and delivery time
Key relationships (Internal & External):
Working with Data Infrastructure Manager to provide clear view of the health of electrical asset data

Close working relationship with the Data Hub to understand current challenges and provide technical expertise and support

Knowledge and skills:
Experience in the use of technical data analysis tools such as FME and Alteryx and the ability to develop new IT skills as required

Experience in the use of desktop GIS tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS or MapInfo
-
Familiarity with databases and knowledge of SQL
-
Demonstrable skills in organisation and planning, data analysis and manipulation and presentation of statistical information
