“The emphasis is on business partnering and driving actionable insights.”
Sounds easy, right?
There’s quite a journey of opportunities ahead of you with this. Becoming part of a newly established data insight function, building a completely new data asset for an organisation that’s over 100 years old.
To date the company’s worked with its assets in silo. In an on-premise set up which had each line of business with their own arrangement in place. Covering everything from sales and marketing, finance and operations, supply chain and everything else. Supporting with business intelligence and reporting as well as customer insight research.
This new function is designed to bring this all together in a new data lake built using Cloud technologies.
For the last year they’ve been defining what’s needed to make things happen and have got the wheels in motion wrangling the data assets, getting it right from an engineering perspective.
It’s now time to get to work with analysing this data and giving it meaning. Identifying the value opportunities, understanding the various challenges the business might be looking to tackle, translating these into data briefs and delivering upon them.
That’s where you come in and where impact will be felt.
You’ll be engaging with different teams across the business, marketing, commercial, operations, etc. Understanding their pain points and where data and insight can help unlock potential or resolve it.
Translating these challenges into data briefs. Sourcing the data you’ll need to analyse and decide the best approach to take to achieve the end goal.
Outputs could range from reporting in Excel, or building a complex visualisation on PowerBI. Through to application of advanced analytics techniques exploring application of predictive modelling techniques for supply chain optimisation, for example.
But it’s important to note, because this team is forming, there’s a decent amount of foundation building going on to achieve the data transformation the business is looking to achieve.
So your role will be broad scope and currently relatively greenfield.
Things will evolve and develop over time as the analytics team grows, and demands for insight steps up from the business. Advancing into application of advanced analytics and modelling techniques, and introducing and experimenting with ML techniques too.
So you’ll see the scope and opportunity for you to have an impact evolve over time, and as the business becomes more and more data centric.
Your report line will be to the head of data, and there’s scope for growth as the team continues to build too. With a roadmap to increase headcount by potential 2-300% over the next 12 months as this insight function gains pace and the demand for insight continues to grow within the business.
