The Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation is responsible for British Columbia’s electricity, alternative energy, mining and petroleum resource sectors, and supporting work to meet BC’s greenhouse gas reduction targets.
The Spatial Data Analyst is responsible for data creation, data quality control and integration, and advanced spatial data analysis to support ministry decision makers and to advise and assist technical and professional staff throughout the Mines, Competitiveness and Authorizations Division and the Mines, Health Safety and Enforcement Division. Major focuses include supporting the provincial registry of sub-surface mineral and coal rights; analytical support for strategic initiatives, policy and major mines; the creation and maintenance of geospatial information for permitted mine sites and permitted exploration sites; geospatial support for mines permitting and reclamation activities, and regulation across the province.
Job Requirements:
- Degree or higher in geomatics, resource management or related field; OR
- Diploma in geographic information systems; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience creating, editing, maintaining, designing and developing customized spatial applications and preparing recommendations based on natural resource interpretations with keen awareness of attention to detail.
- Experience delivering large spatial analysis projects in support of client’s business needs.
- Experience managing projects and working both independently and with project teams.
- Experience in a high stress environment with acute attention to detail and committed approach to a high level of accuracy.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Experience working with mining or land administration systems in BC.
- Education and/ or work experience in any of the following:
- Oracle
- Postgres
- Structured Query Language (SQL)
- ArcGIS/ArcPRO
- ArcGIS model builder
- ArcGIS Online (AGOL); Arcade; Java Scripting
- QGIS
- Python scripting
- Mobile device applications used in natural resource management
- RPAS (instrument use, pre and post processing software)
- LIDAR
- FME
- Image analysis
