Main description
We are looking for a motivated, diligent young creative to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity to gain on the job experience and learn from the industries’ best. In a deadline driven industry the candidate will be expected to manage their time to hit deadlines and milestones, communicate effectively and work as part of a team. The role requires a keen eye for detail, high work standards and a methodical work approach.
The role will involve a mixture of live work projects as well as practice tasks that will enable the retouch assistant to strengthen and expand their skills. The first expectation of the retouch assistant is to help with basic retouching tasks to facilitate the on job workflow, tasks might include:
- Checking suitability of supplied images
- Image upsizing
- Pathing
- Masking
- Cutouts
- Cleanup
- Image extensions
As the candidate gains competence and experience they will be given opportunities to take images further including task such as:
- Compositing
- Drawing shadows
- Matching lighting
- Creative colour grading
Aside from the main retouching tasks additional duties will include preparing social media posts and mailers as well as image archiving.
Please note: The candidate will need to provide evidence of their passion for image making and creativity, such as a portfolio or showreel.
About the course – Level 3 Content Creator
This course explores video production and editing, design, photography, post-production, broadcast and more. Learners are equipped with key skills, knowledge and behaviours to develop expertise and excel in their job role.
Apprentices are trained with the use of Adobe Creative Cloud suite including; Premiere Pro, After Effects and Photoshop.
BCE’s unique training model offers our Content Creator apprentices the following:
- Monthly tutorials / industry masterclasses
- Online learning platform
- Video 1-1 tutorials
- Access to specialist guest speakers
- Support from an industry specialist assessor
Delivery sessions will include an in-person workshop format, webinar and remote learning options.
Candidate Profile:
- The applicant should be highly motivated
- A thirst to learn new skills
- Creative problem solver ready to bring their own ideas
- Ability to prioritise and handle multiple assignments at any given time
Skill Required:
- Prior experience of retouching is not necessary, just a clear passion for image making
- Previous experience in photography, illustration, or demonstrating drawing skills is a big advantage
- Proficiency in Adobe Suite/ and or other photo/ video editing software a bonus
- Excellent communication skills – written and verbal
- Organisational skills
- Be familiar with the key social media channels – Facebook, Instagram

- In-house mentoring
- Level 3 Content Creator

The apprenticeship programme and employment are inclusive of each other. You will need to demonstrate excellent levels of commitment to both the training and job role.
You will work at Dark Art of Light 80% of the time, and study in further education 20% of the time.
Qualifications Required:
We will review all future progress based on successful completion of the apprenticeship.
