Job description

As Tech Features Editor, you will be able to identify the biggest news, trends and areas of interest within the world of cycling tech.

Research and write highly engaging features inline with the editorial strategy for the new-look GCN website. These feature articles will be based around products, racing tech, and industry developments, as well as more general cycling news.

Generate feature ideas based on a series of data and analytics and help create and oversee a content plan that ensures regular delivery of articles across the GCN website. Work closely with the Editor in Chief and the global website team to ensure excellent online coverage.

The Role:

  • Work with the Editor in Chief and the editorial team to help create and implement a rolling tech content plan that aligns with the editorial content strategy.
  • Coordinate with the junior editorial team members to create regular relevant news content and help develop their skills.
  • Contribute an agreed minimum number of articles per day as determined by the editorial strategy.
  • Write blurbs, headlines and social media copy to attract new and existing traffic to your features.
  • Build on an existing library of contacts and sources to help be at the forefront of what’s happening in the world of cycling tech.
  • Create engaging content based on key trends across the cycling industry and cycling communities.
  • Write accurate, concise content for a variety of different audience needs and levels of knowledge.
  • Identify and help source supporting materials to enhance editorial content - imagery, data sets, etc and consider appropriate delivery.
  • Create and update buyer’s guides with the latest information and advice.
  • Create and update evergreen content.
  • Ensure all content is thoroughly researched, accurate and delivered in the appropriate style.
  • Edit and adapt existing content to make it web-friendly.
  • Use SEO and commerce data to analyse the performance of existing content and plan future content.
  • Keep up-to-date with emerging trends and developments across the cycling industry.
  • Create and upload content to the site’s content system and social media channels.
  • Develop and maintain productive industry relationships.
  • Plan your workload efficiently and ensure deadlines are met.

About you:

  • At least two years of news or feature writing experience within the cycling media industry.
  • An excellent knowledge of bike tech, products and global industry trends.
  • Strong cycling knowledge and interest - passionate about cycling with the ability to draw on your own reliable, existing knowledge to shape strong editorial articles.
  • Excellent research skills and strong command of written English.
  • Highly organised - able to create and maintain an efficient workflow and deliver content to agreed schedule and deadlines.
  • Strong communicator - can work well independently and collaboratively with other team members as necessary.
  • Knowledge of various cycling disciplines, including road cycling and gravel riding, is also desirable.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with social media tools, SEO and content management systems is desirable.
