The Government Security Group (GSG) is the centre of the Function, based within the Cabinet Office. GSG is transforming the Government’s approach to protective security to ensure it is fit to meet the challenges of the digital age. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, dynamic team, with a breadth of stakeholders including in other Government departments, the National Technical Authorities and the Agencies, and to contribute to delivering improved security across Government.
The Cyber Defence directorate within GSG is responsible for delivering the Government Cyber Security Strategy, to protect public services and improve cyber resilience across government. The team covers all aspects of defensive cyber security for Government including strategy, policy, assurance, red teaming, capability development, and the operational deliverables of incident, risk and vulnerability management. Job description
This role will be joining the Cyber Assurance team, a critical component of the Cyber Directorate responsible for evaluating and improving cyber security across government. We are rolling out a new approach to assurance, GovAssure, which will transform government’s approach to cyber security and resilience. As part of this team you will be shaping the analytical products of GovAssure, using assessment data to deliver insights into the cyber security challenges facing government and its partners. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of government, delivering a ground-breaking new approach to cyber security assurance as part of a dynamic, inclusive and skilled team.
The post holder will be responsible for:
- Analysing and evaluating data derived from GovAssure assessments, based on NCSC’s Cyber Assurance Framework (CAF);
- Developing analytical products on cyber resilience in government, including departmental reports and cross-government analysis;
- Building the strategic requirements for interpreting and managing results;
- Developing reporting metrics for programme performance, which will feed into implementation of the Government Cyber Security Strategy and cross-government assurance activities;
- Working with a multidisciplinary team to feed insights from assurance reviews into government policy and operational work;
- Working with technical stakeholders to support future development of the online web platform WebCAF, as well as other new digital technologies and analysis tools required by the GovAssure programme and the Government Cyber Security Strategy;
- You will also have opportunities for training and professional development, and we encourage staff to gain technical qualifications.
Person specification
Essential skills and experience:
- Comfortable working in a technical environment;
- Experience of working across organisations with a range of stakeholders;
- Ability to communicate your findings effectively to technical and non technical audiences;
- Confidence working with datasets and producing analytical reports.
Desirable skills and experience:
- Experience running quantitative and/or qualitative analytical projects, showing skills in survey design, reporting, and working with complex data;
- Skilled in using digital tools and software for data analysis, visualisation, and reporting (programming skills useful but not essential);
- Experience of working in security, particularly cyber.
Level of Security Clearance required:
Must be willing to undergo vetting clearance to SC (Security Cleared) level

Selection process
Should a large number of applications be received, an initial sift may be undertaken using the lead behaviour 'Making Effective Decisions'. Candidates who pass the initial sift may be progressed to a full sift, or progressed straight to assessment / interview.
If selected for interview, you will be assessed against the above behaviours and you will be asked to prepare a 5-minute presentation on a data-related topic to deliver at the interview. The presentation topic will be confirmed at a later stage.
