The Graduate Student Success Coordinator will work to assist students in an effort to improve student retention, persistence, and graduation rates. By providing academic advising for incoming students and early intervention measures, the coordinator will have a targeted focus on student success. This will help to coordinate initiatives to improve student retention and persistence in graduate programs. The Coordinator will collaborate with the graduate admissions team to design and implement retention initiatives and communicate with faculty and staff regarding student concerns. Additionally, the coordinator will work with returning students on academic and social concerns and serve as the academic advisor for returning students who have been assigned to the Coordinator.
Job Requirements: Candidates must have the character and personality to relate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and the community. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree. And at least 2 years of experience in student advising, recruitment, retention, or other related student services areas is preferred. Good oral and written communication skills and an understanding of college programs and procedures regarding advisement, registration, and financial aid is desirable.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
The Student Success Coordinator will
- Daily collaborate with the Graduate Admissions Office on newly admitted students
- Register new students and assist returning students with registration.
- Run reports of students not registered and seek to retain them through communication efforts
- Identify and develop student success indicators for purposes of monitoring, evaluating and reporting on student academic progress, persistence, attrition/retention and graduation rates.
- Maintain data and contact students in jeopardy of withdrawing or failing school.
- Establish plans of action to address negative attrition/retention patterns.
- Provide individual and group Student Success Skills sessions/workshops.
- Communicate with students on a regular basis in person, by text, telephone, and e-mail to facilitate retention activities.
- Build and maintain an awareness of current trends and best practices in retention and student success areas and integrate such knowledge into programs and services.
- Provide program instruction and guidance from enrollment to graduation to students.
- Help students sustain motivation and progress to graduation.
- Recommend appropriate student services.
- Daily collaborate with other departments on campus
- Engage and educate students throughout their academic program.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
