Job description
Good question.
Well, for a start, we’re a hugely ambitious council, committed to improving lives for the residents, communities and businesses of Somerset.
And that’s why we’re working so hard to build a sustainable organisation with a culture that rewards, values and recognises our staff, and gives everyone here the opportunity to grow and develop, personally and professionally.
If you’re looking for a place where you work truly matters – where YOU truly matter – we might be just right for you.
The role is based in our refurbished, modern offices in County Hall, in Taunton, We also promote a healthy work-life balance and offer flexible working arrangements wherever possible, including hybrid working once trained.
What will I be doing?
We’re working to improve the lives of people in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that.
We are looking for a Customer Service Admin Assistant to join our award-winning Customer Service Team here at Somerset Council, in the Children’s team. The vast majority of this role is not customer facing and therefore may suit someone who enjoys working quietly and methodically.
You will be dealing with electronic referrals and emails which may occasionally result in making calls to a professional for any additional information, but you will not be expected to receive or make calls to members of the public.
We are the front door for the Children’s services provided by Somerset County Council; the role is incredibly interesting
Your day-to-day work will involve:
- Communicating with professionals and members of the public via email about a range of queries such as safeguarding concerns and Special Educational Needs queries
- Logging Police Reports on the Childrens Social Care system
- Data inputting electronic referrals
What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?
We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you:
- Good IT skills – you will need to learn how to use various systems, Teams, Excel, Word etc
- A keen eye for detail – you will be inputting highly sensitive data
- An efficient, professional work ethic are highly desirable traits for this role.
- It is not essential to have knowledge of the children’s services provided by Somerset Council, but any understanding is beneficial. Whether that be from personal experience from you or your family, or from working in an education or childcare setting.
- Able to follow (sometimes repetitive) processes accurately and correctly.
- Due to the nature of the work you need resilience and an enthusiasm to learn about our services.
We’re proud to be here for the people of Somerset. And that means everyone in Somerset. An important part of this is ensuring that we are as diverse and inclusive as the people and communities we serve.
We welcome applications from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences to enrich our team. You can always contact the hiring manager for a chat if there’s anything you want to talk about before you apply.
What will I be offered in return?
We are proud to offer an environment that is supportive and rewarding, working as part of a team who are passionate about the work they do to improve the lives of people in Somerset.
We offer great training and development opportunities, with supportive management. As well as this, we have some fantastic employee benefits available:
- We promote a healthy work-life balance and offer flexible working arrangements wherever possible, including working from home.
- Generous annual leave allowance, with the opportunity to purchase additional leave
