The Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE), is currently recruiting for an Education Services Assistant (ESA), with the Bureau of Child Nutrition Programs (CNP), Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) team. The ESA is essential to the CSDE operating programs that meet regulatory requirements, support access to USDA nutrition programs, and maintain program integrity and compliance.

The Role:
The ideal candidate will have experience in understanding and presenting complex topics to a variety of audiences, exceptional attention to detail, and excellent oral and written communication skills. The ESA will assist in administering the federal U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) CACFP. As an ESA, discover the opportunity to:
- Provide support, professional development, training, and technical assistance to CACFP sponsoring institutions regarding access to CACFP
- Ensure program integrity and compliance with state and federal laws
- Conduct training, oversight, and monitoring of CACFP sponsoring institutions
- Process and provide technical assistance for CACFP applications, renewals, and agreements
- Conduct CACFP program monitoring and oversight, including assisting with administrative reviews, management evaluations, and other audits
- Work collaboratively with CSDE colleagues to provide consultation, program, and resource development
- Respond to external and internal CACFP data requests
- Collaborate with external and internal partners
- Support the CSDE’s responsibilities to the state and USDA, including reporting, and managing agreements and amendments for CACFP participation
- Perform related duties as required

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Education assists in planning and executing a program for the improvement of education in the state; under supervision is responsible for carrying out specific technical and statistical assignments.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Assists in the development and operation of educational programs and services offered by the state;
- Provides professional and technical assistance to school authorities, professional organizations, students and various community groups and individuals;
- May assist in the routine functioning of the bureau;
- Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
- Knowledge of
- the philosophy and methods of education with particular reference to the field concerned;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
A Master’s degree in education or a closely related field and one (1) year of relevant professional experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience administering the Child and Adult Care Food Program
- Experience managing budgets, including income and expenditure data
- Experience analyzing federal and state regulations
- Experience with program evaluation
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
May be required to hold an appropriate educator or administrator certificate issued by the Bureau of Certification and accreditation.
