Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians. The VDH is made up of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 33 local health districts.
Come join the Blue Ridge Health District (BRHD) as one of our Office Services Specialist (OSS). We could be looking for you to join us in our Charlottesville/Albemarle Health Department, supporting our Clinical Services. BRHD serves the counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson, and the City of Charlottesville.
- Registers patients: interviews to secure and verify personal, financial, demographic and medica history information to determine eligibility; and obtains consent forms and completes associated forms.
- Exit patients from clinic: verifies services rendered, determines prior balance and current charges; explains charges, collects payment or verifies patient or third party billing; writes receipts, schedules next visit; enters payments into computer system and/or journal and reconciles cash receipts.
- Answers program questions: explains policies and procedures.
- Provides clerical support for various programs: composes non-routine correspondences; creates and maintains files, log and databases; send appointment cards; schedules appointments; greets visitors and directs to appropriate official; answers telephone and conveys messages.
- May provide office support coverage as needed throughout the Blue Ridge Health District.

Minimum Qualifications
- General knowledge of office principles and practices
- Working knowledge of work processing and spreadsheet software applications
- Ability to interpret and follow established procedures and guidelines
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Considerable skill in the operation of standard office equipment
Preferred Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- Experience in office setting specific to program area.
