Customer Service/ Warehouse Assistant
Excellent opportunity for someone looking to start/progress further in the wine trade. De Burgh Wine Merchants is now in it’s 10th year of trading and operates UK-wide. We import direct from producers in Europe and distribute all over the country but mainly to hotels and restaurants in Scotland. An opportunity has arisen for someone to join the team and contribute towards the day to day running of the business, in aspects including but not limited to customer service, office administration, warehouse duties and from time to time delivery of orders in company vehicles. It is a multi-tasking role, primarily office based but very much involved in warehouse operations also. An ability to move between roles is essential.
Main duties include:
- Running of the ‘orders desk’, where all customer orders, trade and private, pass through. You will be responsible for the processing of the orders/liaising with customers to confirm delivery details/ dealing with stock issues etc, and the general maintenance of our delivery schedule.
- Dealing with customers’ wine enquiries, via phone and email and in person.
- Assisting with the maintenance of our various systems that hold product information this includes but is not limited to - vintages, ABVs, tasting notes, in house SAGE system, online web shop, trade list.
- Working closely with the warehouse team to manage and organise delivery schedules to ensure smooth running of operations.
- Working with the various couriers that we use to distribute orders outwith areas that our own vans deliver to. Management of customer expectations and requirements regarding deliveries.
- Picking and checking orders in the warehouse to prepare for dispatch.
- Goods-in warehouse duties, checking off orders that come in from suppliers and making sure all is correct and as expected.
- Delivering orders in company vehicles in a timely and orderly fashion.
Essential skills/abilities
- Wine knowledge / experience – WSET Level 1 or above is desired.
- Customer Service experience – exceptional verbal and written skills, competent and polite email and phone manner are essential.
- Clean driving license
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Excel is beneficial, good numeracy skill.
- Good time management and prioritisation skills.
Starting salary of £24,000 per annum, to be reviewed after 3 months DOE - The company offers 28 days holiday per annum which includes bank holidays and also contributes to a company pension operated by NEST. We also offer a generous bonus scheme and personal purchases at cost price.
Although the above entails the main duties, it is not an exhaustive list - the role is flexible and will grow with time outwith the specification outlined above. You will be working alongside our experienced team thus the opportunity to learn and develop will very much be present. You will also be involved in tasting potential new wines to be added to our portfolio - we all taste together as a team (we really do only ever sell what we want to drink ourselves) and we value everyone’s input.
