What you need to know
We are a small, dynamic member-based association that represents more than 200 independent businesses across Alberta. We are seeking a motivated, eager-to-learn relationship builder to help us bolster communication with our members, represent their interests within our larger industry, and promote our industry to Albertans. It is a role where you will get to know your clients and their needs, proactively share information using a variety of communication tools, offer training and support, help organize and deliver all sorts of engagement opportunities and events, use your creative and promotional skills, and provide basic technical support for the association’s information technology software services.

We are the Alberta Bottle Depot Association (ABDA) and our members are Depot owners and operators. We help our members run viable, sustainable businesses within Alberta’s regulated beverage container management system. This system is among the leading recycling programs of its type in North America.
Recent engagement and satisfaction surveys show an exceptional level of satisfaction amongst ABDA members.
We do more for our members than your average business association. We provide IT software services, negotiate major agreements, manage a corporate social responsibility program, and assist with piloting innovation. We collaborate & engage with a wide range of stakeholders to build our industry and promote recycling to Albertans. Our current team members appreciate our fast pace and working with our diverse membership and stakeholders on a wide variety of opportunities and challenges.
Who you are
We’re looking for someone who values relationships, exemplifies outstanding communication, has a head for problem solving, and exercises discretion in working with our members’ business information. To be successful in the Member Experience Specialist role, you should be able to:
- travel independently with your own vehicle, and manage time appropriately while travelling;
- have a demonstrated ability to build trust, credibility, and professional relationships with our diverse membership and stakeholders;
- be motivated to learn about how Alberta’s beverage container recycling system works and Depots’ role in it;
- have an interest in recycling programs, the environment and development of a circular economy;
- demonstrate exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills by using those skills effectively in a variety of communication channels;
- feel confident developing communications content and using a variety of digital communications channels;
- understand the value of exceptional customer service experiences and how to offer them;
- feel comfortable working on your own and collaborating with a team towards set goals;
- have a demonstrated history of planning and delivering projects and prioritizing demands;
- help plan, deliver, and learn from member-focused and industry-wide events, including annual general meetings, conferences, town halls, and more; and
- be computer savvy, with an ability to learn new systems and provide basic technical support.
Industry knowledge and a post-secondary degree or diploma in commerce, arts, social sciences, public relations, communications, or marketing are considered assets.
Primary work location: 17850 105 Avenue NW, Edmonton
Travel requirements: Travel within Alberta borders is required. Area of travel is generally limited to the Northern Zone (approximately Ponoka to High Level). There are 100+ Depot locations served by this position which could require on-site support. Travel may result in occasional overnight stays. Expenses for approved travel are reimbursed based on ABDA policies.
Employee classification: Full-time with benefits.
Reporting relationship: This position reports to the Manager of Member Services.

Date available: July 15, 2023, or sooner; negotiable for the right candidate.
Hours: 40 hours/week; Monday-Friday, with some flexibility and occasional need to work on weekends.
Salary: The ABDA offers a competitive compensation and benefits package.
