Contract Type: Permanent (Full-Time)
Location: Southeast Region. Home office location: Docklands
Salary: RCS I - £50,000, plus Car or Car allowance and excellent bonus/commission structure.

About the role.

Due to continued business growth, we have an opening for a Customer Development Manager to join the sales team within the Southeast region where they will help drive the business growth agenda across the region and contribute to the business’s overall objectives. This is achieved through the successful identification, assessment, pursuit and winning of new business opportunities.

The role holder will have a proven track record of developing and leveraging constructive relationships within target accounts to gain access to key decision makers and establishing a coach network. They will actively engage with potential customers offering products and services with an annual spend ranging up to £500,000. Utilising their expertise in Business Development and sector knowledge, the Customer Development Manager will act as a consultant to potential customers, allowing strong relationships to be built and to develop a deep understanding of the customers’ needs required to successful bid and win the business.

To be successful as a Customer Development Manager for DHL Parcel, you will need to have a successful career within direct sales, ideally gained within a Field based or regional sales structure. You will be driven and dedicated to the business development lifecycle and with expert skills in assessing potential leads to identify future wins and your motivation ideally will be fuelled by the success of winning.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities will include the following:

  • To take overall responsibility for the prospecting and winning of new customers with annual net revenues of up to £500,000.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with procurement bodies, print management companies and mailing houses to ensure the generation of an ongoing supply of sales leads. Source additional leads through own research and industry knowledge.
  • Prepare and present new business sales propositions to customer leads and prospects, progressing opportunities through the complete sales process from lead through to established trading customer.
  • Identify and establish contacts and relationships with a range of decision makers within customer prospects to build support for sales proposals. Identify benefit opportunities and address potential concerns to maximise sales success.
  • Working to strict deadlines to ensure completion of tenders, onboarding of customers to agreed implementation plans, and delivery of company targeted revenues.
  • Regular liaison with Customer Production Managers and Site Managers on a national basis to review/discuss capabilities to onboard prospects.
  • Accurately model operational costs and customer profitability of opportunities to ensure profitable bid pricing.
  • Influence customer requirements and expectations as necessary to reduce the ongoing management and administrative burden of new and existing business.
  • Carry out contract negotiations, price reviews and build and maintain strong trading relationships whilst monitoring early life trading patterns.
  • Effectively solve problems and manage risk to satisfy customer bespoke requirements to ensure winning and retention of customers and achievement of targets and KPIs.

What are the requirements?

  • Previous experience gained within field or regional sales territories.
  • Demonstratable track record of success within a sales position.
  • Advanced sales prospecting and negotiation skills.
  • Experience of bidding and winning business through formal tenders.
  • Effective use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong abilities in stakeholder management.
