Job description
To assist, under supervision, in the delivery of quality critical care services in liaison with the multidisciplinary team. Including infection control, cleanliness of the environment, procurement of equipment /supplies and patient care/transfer
To assist with admin and clerical duties to ensure the effective running of the ward/department.

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our dedicated, friendly and supportive team on the Critical Care Unit at the Princess Royal University Hospital.
The Critical Care Unit provides specialist intensive care for critically ill medical and surgical patients. The Critical Care Unit is a purpose built 10-bedded facility, with the ability to be flexible if demand on the service requires with lots of opportunities for all staff, this makes for a varied and interesting experience.
Critical Care Support Workers play a vital role supporting the team to deliver quality critical care services. This includes maintaining stock levels, equipment and supplies as well as daily cleaning and maintaining infection control measures, assistance with the admission and discharge of patients in to and out of the unit as well as clerical duties. Due to the specialist nature of the environment, you will only be assisting the nursing staff in the delivery of high-quality basic nursing care such as pressure area care and rehabilitation.
The unit requires you to work long days, with internal rotation to day and night shifts, both during the week and at weekends and is an ideal role for those wishing to pursue a career in the NHS at a Trust that is committed to supporting all staff in their personal and professional development.

Environmental Responsibilities
To participate in maintaining standards of hygiene, cleanliness and infection
control, reporting problems as appropriate
To assist with ensuring that equipment is clean at all times, stored safely when
not in use and report faults as appropriate
To assist in cleaning, setting up and preparing patient areas appropriate to the clinical area
To assist ward staff with general collection/delivery of items necessary to ensure
effective operational management of ward/department
To assist in unpacking and checking of delivery volumes of stock and pharmacy items
Clinical Practice
To work under guidance from a registered nurse, following instructions and promptly reporting any problems:
You will be able to perform the following:
To assist with transporting/escorting of patients to other departments within the hospital
To assist patients with activities of daily living whilst encouraging independence, as appropriate
To assist with patient nutritional needs – eating, drinking, menu selection, meal delivery and special diets according to the individual patient’s needs
To assist in the maintenance of up to date, comprehensive and accurate records in accordance with current legal requirements
To assist in the admission and discharge of patients, including any necessary risk assessments, and transfer
After appropriate training, to assist in the delivery of specimens including blood samples to the laboratory and collection of blood products
To help ensure that stock levels of linen, sterile supplies, NG feed and stationery are maintained at all times in conjunction with the senior sister/ward receptionist.
To assist in the maintenance and safekeeping of patients property in line with Trust policy
To act as a patient chaperone while assisting nurses, ensuring privacy and
dignity are maintained
To assist in performing the last offices as requested
Customer Care/Administration
To assist in ensuring that all patients and relatives are welcomed and orientated to the ward environment
To assist with the care of distressed or bereaved relatives
To assist with clerical and ward administrative duties, including data
management, photocopying, transporting of equipment/data/ paperwork to other departments
To provide clear and effective information and communication, both verbally and in writing. Promptly referring enquiries to the relevant person
To maintain confidentiality at all times, in and out of the hospital environment
To demonstrate an awareness of the different cultural, ethnic and religious
needs.
Personal and Professional Development
To adhere to, and work within the code of conduct for clinical support
workers/health care assistants at King’s College Hospital
To be able to identify with support own development needs, completing a
competency document and learning objectives within a specified time frame and as agreed by manager
To ensure own attendance at mandatory study days and training (BLS, manual handling etc.) as required by ward/departmental manager
To update skills and knowledge as required by the Trust
To actively participate in annual individual performance review
Management
To manage an agreed workload with supervision and support from colleagues and senior staff
To work within and support the multidisciplinary team, contributing ideas toward future developments
To maintain effective communication and professional relationships with all areas within the department and associated clinical areas within the Trust
To participate in reflection and or clinical supervision sessions as provided
To observe personal and collective responsibility for resource management
To observe a general duty of care for the health, safety and well being of self, work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital
To be responsible with others for any specific risk management associated with the post, reporting and taking appropriate actions as necessary
