- Working collaboratively with specialist consultants and nursing professionals to ensure that patients’ treatment and care needs are met
- Being a part of the rolling rota covering a 24-7 acute service under the supervision of consultants in critical care medicine
- Managing Critical Care patients including those with multi organ failure, requiring cardiopulmonary support including intubation, ventilation and management of arrhythmias.
- Leading and assisting with new admissions and inpatient consultations, including morning and evening multidisciplinary ward rounds
- Proactively identifying patients who qualify for early mobilisation, are at risk for decline or may have a longer length of stay
- Participating in the regular in-house learning sessions and other educational activities as well as taking up educational responsibilities
- Adhering to the best practice guidelines, clinical audits, and governance
- Active involvement in clinical governance meetings, including but not limited to mortality review, safety event reporting, peer review, and other relevant activities.
- Continual commitment, and participation in mandatory trainings, including Epic electronic medical record system
- If interested, participating in professional development opportunities such as medical management & leadership, education & simulation or academic research programmes within CCL or the main campus in Cleveland, US. A tailored visit to main campus in Ohio will be available to all Fellows appointed to these roles
- MBBS or equivalent
- Primary FRCA
- Current UK visa or permission to work
- FRCA or/and FFICM or equivalent (desirable)
- Intercalated BSc, BA, BMedSci or equivalent (desirable)

- Management of the post cardiac surgical critical care patient
- Ability to organise and prioritise complex demands
- Effective communication skills
- Competent in airway management including endotracheal intubation and the management of airway emergencies
- Competent in leading an adult cardiac arrest team (CALS),
- Competent in the insertion of arterial and central venous lines and nasogastric tubes
- Competent in the management and transport of the ventilated patient
- Competent in the initial management of the unstable critically ill patient IT skills using electronic patient care systems (desirable)
- Evidence of working in a multi-disciplinary team (desirable)
- Insertion and interpretation of PA catheters (desirable)
- Management of the patient with a tracheostomy(desirable)
- Planning and implementing quality improvement projects and quality improvement research(desirable)
- ST4 level or equivalent and above
- Perioperative patient management experience to include cardiac, neuro and GI surgery patients
- Minimum of 1 year training and working in a critical care unit under supervision
- ST6 level and above with experience of leading the unit out of hours and managing patients following cardiothoracic surgery and neurosurgery (desirable)
- Experience in the management of external cardiac pacing, invasive monitoring, tracheostomy, intracranial pressure monitoring, renal failure & replacement and spinal drains (desirable)
- Experience in ECMO, TTE, TOE (desirable)
- Management of the long term critically ill rehabilitation patient (desirable)
- Commitment to good team working and relationships
