Job summary

As a Criminal Investigations Officer, part of a larger national team, you will lead on the management and conduct of UK wide investigative and enforcement activities to enhance public safety in the security sector.

Reporting directly to the Criminal Investigations Managers, under the guidance of the Lead Investigations Officers, autonomously lead, manage and progress at pace investigations into allegations of significant non-compliance with the PSIA 2001 and breaches of other primary legislation impacting the security sector.


Job description

What you will be doing:

  • Conducting cradle to grave criminal investigations from receipt of a referral/intelligence product through to prosecution and proceeds of crime activities which are HRA and CPIA compliant.

Gather evidence using the manual of guidance (Mg) forms, building a case file which is stored on our digital case management system (CRIMSON)

Engage with relevant internal business areas/external LEA partners with a view to driving investigations in the most appropriate fashion and at pace.

Conduct your own, and assist colleagues with, operational activities as part of the evidence gathering process

Conduct PACE compliant interviews with suspects

Submit case files to our in-house legal services department and engage with reviewing lawyers/external counsel.

Attend at hearings/trial at magistrates and crown court trials throughout the UK and the devolved administrations, with the potential for attendance at appeal hearings at the higher court.

Engage with the SIA’s media department regarding external publication of outcomes.

Act as a subject matter expert on the conduct of investigations and our own primary legislation.

Person specification

The Criminal Investigation team are looking for an experienced investigator with a proven track record in conducting PACE compliant criminal investigations, with the necessary court presentation skills and a current working knowledge of the disclosure requirements under CPIA. The applicant must be able to work across the wider law enforcement and regulatory community and alongside legal services professionals.
