OVERVIEW:

The role of the Credit and Collections Manager is to manage the activities of the credit department. This position will report directly to the Director of Finance.

This is a hybrid position, with two days available to work from home.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the credit granting process including establishing appropriate limits for new customers and monitoring and assessing credit limits for existing customers.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and other information in customer credit files.
  • Review customer accounts on a regular basis to maintain an appropriate level of credit risk.
  • Manage day-to-day collection activities to ensure customer accounts are accurate and delinquent accounts are managed on a timely basis.
  • Recommending changes for improvement of the company’s credit policies, processes, and controls.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely distribution of customer statements.
  • Manage the pre-authorized debits of customer accounts.
  • Initiate credits and adjustments to customer accounts within company policy limits.
  • Identify problem accounts and escalate collection activities as required.
  • Work with divisional operations staff to ensure collection activities balance the needs of the customer and the company.
  • Ensure the accurate application of payments, undertaking investigation where queries arise to minimize bad debt write offs and maximize receipts.
  • Negotiate payment programs for delinquent customers.
  • Develop relationships with customers to establish strong business relationships and limit credit risk.
  • Assess and identify accounts that need to be escalated to a collection agency or legal action status. Coordinate collections with third party contractors and legal professionals, as necessary.
  • Optimize the ERP as it relates to accounts receivable and credit.
  • Provide recommendations for the company’s allowance for doubtful accounts on a quarterly basis.
  • Establish budget plans for residential customers on an annual basis.
  • Coordinate activities around issuing of MacEwen credit cards and Esso card lock cards as well as monitoring credit activities around those cards.
  • Manage the credit card charge-back and retrieval process.
  • Manage, mentor, and provide guidance to the accounts receivable team.

EDUCATION & SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE:

  • 5 to 10 years credit management experience.
  • Certified Credit Professional (CCP) designation
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Strong computer skills, and ability to leverage technology to efficiently run the department.
  • Effective listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proven judgment and decision-making ability demonstrating the ability to generate strong collections while maintaining customer satisfaction.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated integrity and ethical standards.
  • Able to manage difficult customers with diplomacy and tact.
  • The ability to communicate in both official languages is considered an asset.
  • Ability to set priorities.
