With demand continuing to grow for Opus 2’s transcription services, we are seeking to add to our highly skilled pool of freelance court transcribers, offering competitive rates to work on some of the highest profile cases in England and Wales from the comfort of your own home.
As a freelance court transcriber, you will be responsible for listening to audio from civil and criminal courts across England and Wales and producing an accurate record of what has been said, in accordance with Opus 2 guidelines.
You will be working with highly confidential material, some of which will be of a sensitive and/or challenging nature.
To be considered for this role, it is essential that you:
- live in the United Kingdom;
- are fluent in English with excellent spelling, grammar and punctuation;
- possess good listening skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to review your own work;
- have experience producing high quality court transcripts from the English/Welsh courts;
- are passionate about court transcription and are driven by exacting standards to follow transcription guidelines to meet minimum quality standards;
- are a good communicator and can take on board and action feedback appropriately;
- possess the organisational skills to independently manage your workload to strict deadlines;
- ability to adhere to strict confidentiality/security requirements and provide a standard DBS check;
- have a minimum typing speed of 60wpm from audio. A lower typing speed will be considered though it will impact your earning potential.
Requirements
In addition to the above, IT and administrative skills are key to success in this role. You must be:
- confident with the use of Microsoft Office; specifically, Word and Outlook;
- open to learning new systems using internally developed software;
- proactive and an effective communicator, written and oral, notifying any technical issues to the office at the earliest possible opportunity;
- someone with sound research skills, familiar with online databases such as BAILII to locate any information required to ensure accurate transcription.
It is also very important to have the right environment and equipment to perform the role. We require that you have:
- a quiet and private workspace with strong, reliable internet;
- your own laptop with minimum of Windows 10;
- a set of noise cancelling headphones and a foot pedal.
