Major Duties
Under general supervision of the Associate Director of Student Outreach, the Outreach Counselor Trainee is responsible to increase the enrollment of prospective undergraduate Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) students at CSUN. The incumbent will be responsible to conduct outreach and recruitment services, establish strong relationships with college counselors, parents, students and communities to create a college pipeline for APIDA students from highs schools and community colleges.
Conducts speaking engagements and workshops and assists with department wide events.
Provides presentations encompassing information on the CSU system, CSU Northridge, EOP, financial aid, application process, pre-enrollment follow up, tele-counseling, and the master plan of higher education in California.
Compiles recruitment data and prepares reports.
Performs other duties as assigned.
NOTE:
Qualifications
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field.
No experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
General knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior; working knowledge of research and observation techniques for the purpose of recording, classifying, and interpreting factual information; and working knowledge of the techniques and methods of interviewing.
Ability and specialized skills to: gather and analyze data; ability to reason logically, draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences and interviews; clearly express ideas and recommendations orally; write clear and concise reports; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and faculty.

Classification / grade: 3079 / SSP IA / 1
The anticipated HIRING RATE is $3764. The salary range for this classification is: $3764 - $4604 per month.
HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday.
TEMP: Based on satisfactory progress and successful completion of the training program, the incumbent will be promoted to the level of Student Services Professional IB after 12 months.
