Job Description
Cost Engineer is responsible for creating and reviewing part costs and methods of manufacturing for accuracy in relation to established standards and profitability. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills and experience working in a machine shop environment; be able to effectively communicate on a technical level with Quality, Engineering and Manufacturing personnel; and understand machining cycle times, materials, and GD&T and the cost impact they present.
Role and Responsibilities
- Determine material requirements, labor costs, and cycle times for each job using CAD/CAM software and other relevant tools.
- Develop cost estimates and quotes based on customer requirements and specifications, demonstrating an understanding of 3, 4 & 5 Axis machining, raw materials, special processes, and tolerances.
- Analyze and interpret technical drawings and blueprints to understand the manufacturing requirements of each job.
- Collaborate with other departments, including engineering, production, and sales, to ensure that quotes and cost estimates are accurate and profitable.
- Work with and negotiate with suppliers to obtain accurate and competitive pricing and lead times for materials and other components used in the manufacturing process.
- Maintain accurate records of cost estimates, quotes, and actual production costs for each job.
- Communicate with customers to answer questions about cost estimates and quotes and provide updates on project status and production timelines.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers to ensure their needs are met and exceeded.
- Analyze production data and metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement in the CNC machining process, including tooling and fixturing.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements in the CNC machining process.
- Keep up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in CNC machining technology to ensure the company remains competitive.
- Ensure that all work is completed in compliance with company policies and procedures, as well as relevant safety regulations and guidelines.
Qualifications / Experience
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent field experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in a CNC environment or equivalent field experience.
- Proficient with CAD/CAM software and other relevant tools.
- Computer skills with MS Office including Word, Excel, Teams, and using Excel-based costing software.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with ERP and MRP systems.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing standards in the semiconductor, medical, and aerospace industries.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and deadlines.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
