£32,210 - £35,532
HMP Perth

An opportunity has arisen for a Criminal Justice Assistant to join us within the social work unit at HMP Perth on a six month fixed term contract.

The successful applicant will support the provision of a social work service to men in prison who will be leaving custody subject to Statutory Orders or Licence imposed by both the Court and the Parole Board, in accordance with National Outcomes and Standards for Social Work Services in the Criminal Justice System and relevant Scottish Executive Circulars and legislation.

You will have the ability to work alongside team members and agencies who are involved with offenders, to help support risk assessment and case management procedures. Some of your duties will involve attendance at integrated case management meetings (ICMs), induction sessions for men who have been recently allocated to the social work team, and participation in the social work 'duty' rota.

Whilst this is not a qualified social work post there will be an element of training embedded within this post, within a specialized Justice environment dealing with complex cases in a secondary setting, that may be of some long term benefit to those who are hoping to embark on a career in the field of justice social work.

The Individual

We are seeking an enthusiastic, energetic and motivated Worker to join our team.

The successful candidate will have previous experience or knowledge of working with offenders.

You will:

  • Have a strong interest in working with male offenders.
  • Be able to identify males' needs, and contribute to risk and needs assessments and case management plans.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Have the ability to work well independently and by using your own intuition.
  • Work together as part of a team, and support the social workers as and when required.
  • Liaise and work together with multi-agency partners.
  • Be a good time keeper and a reliable team member.
  • Be highly motivated to achieve positive outcomes for male offenders.
  • Have the ability to produce and maintain clear, concise and accurate records.
  • Have the ability to use a computer and be familiar with Microsoft Word and email.
  • Have awareness of substance misuse and child protection issues.
  • Have SVQ Level 3 or equivalent (or be willing to work towards this).

If you would like any more information regarding this vacancy, please contact Carol Casey, Team Leader, on 01738 458172.

When completing your application for this post, please ensure that you provide contact details (including e-mail addresses) for two referees. One should be your current or most recent employer.

Please APPLY ONLINE. Facilities are available at all public libraries in Perth and Kinross. If you have a disability and require reasonable adjustments, please call 01738 475555 to discuss.
