General Information
James Madison University invites applications for the Coordinator of Restorative Practices in the Office of Student Accountability and Restorative Practices (OSARP). The successful candidate will work with the Restorative Practices case load and programs; conduct intake meetings and facilitate processes for Restorative Practices; assist in the marketing and outreach efforts for Restorative Practices both on and off campus; supervise the Restorative Practices graduate assistant and oversee supervision of any Restorative Practices student staff; serve as a Case Administrator for student accountability processes that adjudicate alleged violations of university policy; coordinate the development and facilitation of the Conversations about Conflict sanctioned program; coordinate the recruitment and training of volunteers for Restorative Practices facilitated processes.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Coordinator of Restorative Practices reports to the Assistant Director of Restorative Practices in the Office of Student Accountability and Restorative Practices and has responsibility for the following:
Support the Restorative Practices unit, case load, and programs. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Support the Assistant Director of Restorative Practices in the case management process for Restorative Practices cases
  • Conduct intake and other meetings for sanctioned and referral cases
  • Facilitate Restorative Practices processes
  • Participate, as needed, with Adaptable Resolution cases
  • Directly supervise, train, and evaluate the Restorative Practices graduate assistant
  • Oversee the supervision, training, and evaluation of any Restorative Practices student staff
  • Coordinate the recruitment and training of facilitators and community representatives for Restorative Practices processes
  • Coordinate the Conversations about Conflict sanctioned program, including the development and updating of program curriculum and facilitation
  • Attend weekly Restorative Practices team meetings
  • Partner with the Assistant Director of Restorative Practices on marketing and outreach of Restorative Practices to the campus and local community
  • Partner with the Assistant Director of Restorative Practices to manage the Restorative Practices email account
  • Participate, as needed, with Restorative Practices assessment efforts
  • Partner with the Assistant Director of Restorative Practices and Associate Director of Case Management to make big picture approvals regarding the unit


Participate as a Case Administrator for minor, major, and flexible cases. Participate as an Advisor/Guide to Reporting and Responding Parties in the Accountability Process, Sexual Misconduct Accountability Process, and Title IX Sexual Harassment Adjudication Process, as needed. Participate in the investigation process for student organization accountability, as needed.
Foster positive working relationships with JMU Police, Residence Life, Title IX, Victim Advocacy, Athletics, Fraternity & Sorority Life, and others associated with student discipline on our campus as applicable to the position. Consistently review language and practices of the Office of Student Accountability and Restorative Practices through a restorative lens. Serve on departmental, divisional and university-wide committees as applicable to the position.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Restorative Practices, Associate Director of Case Management, or Director of the Office of Student Accountability and Restorative Practices.

Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree
Preferred:
  • Master’s degree in Student Affairs or similar field
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise student staff
  • Restorative justice/practices experience, especially in a student conduct setting
  • Conducting case reviews to adjudicate alleged policy violations, especially in a higher education setting
  • Collaboration on a team and managing program(s)

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters of importance related to security and safety. The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
