The Opportunity
The Legislative and Court Services Department is comprised of three branches; Legislative Services (which includes Council Secretariat, Corporate Mail and Print Services, Vital Statistics and Access and Privacy Services), Court Services (which is responsible for the administration of justice within two court service areas in compliance with the Provincial Offences Act, the Memorandum of Understanding and Inter-municipal Service Agreements) and Enforcement Services which is responsible for administering and enforcing several municipal by-laws including but not limited to regulations related to the parking of vehicles, pet controls, property maintenance, business licensing, and sign placement).
Reporting to the Deputy City Clerk, the Legislative Coordinator position is responsible for the coordination of in-person and electronic Council/Committee meetings, preparation and distribution of Council/Committee meeting agendas, supporting material, regular meeting attendance, taking minutes of the meeting, preparation of follow-up correspondence, maintenance of associated record indices, associated research, and liaison duties. Other responsibilities include utilizing an electronic meeting management system to upload content to create agendas, minutes, and other meeting materials as well as training other City staff. This position also assists in all phases of the Municipal Election as required.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)
- One (1) year College Certificate in Public Administration or other related discipline
Experience
- Three (3) years of experience performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities
Knowledge/Skill/Ability
- Working knowledge of various provincial legislation including the Municipal Act, Municipal Election Act, Municipal Conflict of Interest Act, Statutory Powers Procedure Act, Planning Act, Commissioners for Taking Affidavits Act, Municipal Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy Act, AGCO regulations and other general statutes governing municipal operations in Ontario
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Ability to work outside of regular business hours, depending on meeting schedule and deadlines
- Ability to operate in a fast, deadline-driven environment
- Excellent organizational and time management skills and ability to adapt quickly to change
- Demonstrated attention to accuracy and detail
- High level of initiative, problem-solving and accountability and strong customer service skills
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a high standard of professionalism, transparency, sound judgment, diplomacy and confidentiality
- Highly developed computer skills and experience with MS Office

Other Important Information
Location: City Hall, 70 Collier Street, Barrie, Ontario
- Please note the City has launched a Hybrid Work Program Procedure that may allow a hybrid work arrangement for employees who meet the eligibility requirements.
Hours: The normal hours of work are 35 hours per week in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
Wage: This position is within the CUPE Local 2380 Bargaining Unit with the following pay level and 2023 pay range:
- Pay Level: Level 4
- Yearly Salary: $51,760.80 to $61,989.20 per year
- Hourly Pay Rate: $28.44 to $34.06 per hour
