Camp Cook/Facilitator
Summary
Best Exploration and Educational Camping Holidays (B.E.E.C.H), is a 5-day overnight summer Adventure and STEM camp for children & teens, to be held at a campground in Niagara Falls. This camp is sponsored this year by the Foundation for Black Communities (FFBC), and geared to give youth opportunity to interact and connect with other youth. We are now looking for an enthusiastic, responsible , and reliable Camp Cook who assist with other tasks when not cooking. The camp runs from July 3rd-July 7th, 2023 and you have an option to commute to campsite daily. We provide transportation to and from camp with pickup points in Halton and Toronto, if you do not live in the Niagara area.
About Us
Re-Imagine Ontario is a registered charity whose mission is to improve the health, education, and employment of vulnerable seniors and youth by fostering strong community support networks. Our target demographics are underserved youth and isolated seniors, throughout the Halton-Peel area.
Responsibilities:
The Role
· Meal Planning: Collaborate with camp organizers to develop a diverse and balanced menu for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks, taking into consideration dietary restrictions and preferences.
· Food Preparation: Prepare and cook meals for campers and staff, ensuring that food is prepared safely, following proper hygiene practices, and adhering to food safety regulations.
· Cooking Knowledge: Exhibit a strong culinary skill set, including knowledge of various cooking techniques, meal presentation, and recipe adaptation for a group of 16-18 persons.
· Inventory Management: Maintain inventory of food supplies, ingredients, and kitchen equipment, and coordinate with the camp coordinator to ensure that necessary items are stocked and available for meals.
· Dietary Accommodations: Accommodate special dietary needs or restrictions, such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or allergies, and ensure alternative options are available as required.
· Cook Space Organization: Oversee the cleanliness and organization of cook area, including regular cleaning, proper storage of perishable and non-perishable items, and maintaining a safe and sanitary environment.
· Supervision: Provide guidance to campers ensuring they understand food safety protocols and assisting with tasks.
· Budget Management: Assist in managing the camp's food budget by sourcing affordable and quality ingredients, minimizing waste, and optimizing resources.
· Collaboration: Work closely with other camp personnel, including counselors and activity coordinators, to coordinate mealtimes and ensure a smooth dining experience for campers and staff.
Qualifications:
· Prior experience as a cook, or kitchen manager, preferably in a camp or food service environment is an asset, though not mandatory.
· Strong culinary skills and knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices.
· Ability to plan and prepare nutritious meals for a diverse group of campers and staff.
· Excellent organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Flexibility and adaptability to accommodate dietary restrictions and special requests.
· Current certifications in food handling and safety are preferred.
You will be required to complete reference and a Vulnerable Background Check (VSC). We pay for the VSC if it comes back clear.

Salary: $22.00-$24.00 per hour
