Job Title: Controls Systems Senior Engineer
Salary: £50,000 – £55,000 (Depending on Experience)
Location : Peterborough, Cambridgeshire
Benefits: 25 days annual leave,
Up to 12% bonus

Integrated Components and Solutions Team
The Integrated Components and Solutions team offers some of the most exciting engineering roles within the Caterpillar global organisation. Working on the integration of electronic and electrical systems within multiple Caterpillar products provides the opportunity to work with multiple disciplines within the organisation.
The integration of the latest Electronics and Electrical technology helps differentiate Caterpillar products from its competitors by enabling exceptional performance and value to the customer. Our engine systems control air and fuel delivery with millisecond precision to maximise performance and minimise exhaust emissions.
Our integrated machine systems control all aspects of construction machine operation (engine/transmission or full electric powertrain, hydraulic systems), provide the human-machine interface (operator controls and information displays), and constantly monitor and communicate position, operation, diagnostic and prognostic information to enable machine automation, improved productivity and enhanced serviceability.

The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineer within our CAT Electronics European Division. Based in Peterborough, the Division works with all CAT’s European facilities to develop and apply advanced technology to the control of our highly integrated engines and machines. With unrivalled levels of vertical integration within the industry, our control systems help to maximise the customer value and efficiency of Caterpillar’s end products, whilst minimising owning and operating costs.
This opportunity will be based in the Compact Engine Systems Team which is responsible for development and implementation of electrical and electronic control systems for diesel engines and advanced powertrains developed by Caterpillar in the UK. As the Control Systems Senior Engineer, the successful applicant for this position will join the Team and be responsible for leading and executing on a portfolio of engine system projects.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
Design, plan and manage coordinated design and development of integrated engine Electrical and Electronic Control Systems
Solicit and capture system and customer requirements
Successful completion of system engineering tasks to satisfy customer requirements
Plan, develop and execute validation activities to mitigate program risk and ensure the system is verified and validated for production.
Develop, manage, communicate and execute a Software Release Schedule for all stakeholders.
Evaluate and analyse any product design & requirements changes.
Identify and resolve new & current product development issues
Skills and Experience:
Candidates will have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:
Very Strong technical background - ideally a good technical degree in mechanical, electronic, electrical, control systems or automotive engineering - though consideration will be given to other qualifications or significant relevant experience in lieu of this.
Proven Lead or Senior Systems Engineer with the ability to successfully execute and lead a number of Electronic System projects at one time
Technical background in systems development, analysis and/or integration (electronics or mechanical)
Very good teaming and communication skills
Good initiative, self-starter
Ability to build strong working relations
Provide focus on the customer and their needs
Ability to initiate and take independent action
Innovative solutions in problem solving
Ability to plan, prioritise and organise
Coaching and mentoring skills to support team members
Demonstrated performance to very high work standards
Candidates may have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:
Previous Technical Lead experience
Previous knowledge or experience in developing control systems for diesel engines, construction equipment or automotive applications is desirable.
Comfortable resolving technical issues and implementing solutions
Comfortable using collaboration tools to work with a global team of resources
Formal systems engineering training
