The New York Yankees are seeking a skilled and highly motivated Assistant Controller to join our accounting operations team. This position will offer a unique opportunity to become highly involved with our accounting and financial operations while collaborating with leaders throughout our organization; a pivotal role to strengthen our team. This person will report to the Controller of Financial Reporting and will be based at the New York Yankees' Tampa, FL facility (George M. Steinbrenner Field Executive Office).
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide overall support in accounting functions and reporting requirements
- Coordinate and manage the preparation and posting of monthly journal entries, account reconciliations and closing review/procedures
- Lead in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements with a focus on accelerating closing process through automation and improved data collection
- Provide recommendations and feedback to aid in the development of new procedures, workflows, and controls to improve efficiency and accuracy of financial reporting
- Provide input into ERP transition and implementation; suggesting best practices or operational efficiencies based on prior work experience
- Prepare and provide audit documentation in relation to annual external financial audit
- Prepare detailed financial information for submission to MLB/Minor League Baseball for minor league affiliate(s)
- Assist in tracking and reporting of multiple revenue streams for the regular season, Spring Training, and non-baseball events
- Collaborate with payroll team in relation to event labor tracking, payroll journal entry postings, and player and employee deductions
- Manage concession loaded ticket tracking and payables to concessionaire
- Maintain fixed asset sub-ledger and lease amortization schedules; responsible for review and closing of CIP projects
- Assist in weekly cash flow evaluation and funding discussions in conjunction with finance team
- Oversee organizational expense reimbursement process for scouting teams and other departments; provide input and cost analysis relating to expense policy changes
- Collaborate with finance team on organizational budget preparation and review
- Coach, review and develop junior members of the team
- Additional ad-hoc projects as assigned by senior accounting and finance team members
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities necessary to perform essential functions:
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and fundamentals of accounting
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and show initiative
- Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a team environment
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and multi-tasking skills with attention to detail
- Ability to effectively and professionally communicate and interact with co-workers and outside vendors/partners
- Analytical ability and desire to understand details of organizational operations
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and positive attitude
- Ability to handle data with confidentiality
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting required; CPA strongly preferred
- A minimum of 5-7 years technical accounting and/or accounting department management experience
- High proficiency in MS Office, particularly in Excel & PowerPoint
- Sage Intacct ERP, SAP Concur, ADP G/L Interface and/or TicketMaster reporting experience is a plus
Physical/Environmental Requirements:
- Must be able to work in-office on a regular basis. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work especially during Spring training season (mid Feb-March) as well as closing periods. Position may require occasional travel to New York (one to two times per year).
