The Role
As the Financial Controller, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the effective financial management and stability of our ecommerce retail business. Your primary responsibility will be to oversee and maintain the integrity of financial operations, reporting, and compliance, while providing strategic financial insights to support the company's growth and profitability. You will report into the Finance Director and have a small team of 5.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and variance analyses.
- Conduct periodic financial reviews to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement, and present the findings to senior management.
- Internal Controls and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations, accounting principles, and UK tax laws.
- Establish and maintain robust internal control processes to safeguard company assets and prevent financial mismanagement.
- Cash Flow Management:
- Monitor cash flow projections and oversee cash management activities, ensuring adequate liquidity to support daily operations.
- Optimize working capital management and recommend strategies to enhance cash flow efficiency.
- Financial Planning and Strategy:
- Collaborate with the executive team to develop long-term financial plans and business strategies.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to support investment decisions and growth initiatives.
- External stakeholders:
- Act as the primary liaison with external auditors and tax advisors during annual financial audits, ensuring a smooth and efficient process
- Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Identify training needs and organize professional development opportunities for the finance team members.
More about you
- ACA qualified Financial Controller, ideally with a top 10 audit background.
- Proven experience (typically 3+ years) as a Financial Controller or similar role within the ecommerce or retail industry, preferably within the UK market.
- Strong understanding of UK GAAP, IFRS, and tax regulations.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate financial data into meaningful insights and actionable recommendations.
- Advanced proficiency in financial modelling, forecasting, and budgeting.
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Demonstrated track record of driving process improvements and optimizing financial performance.
- High level of integrity and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
