About the Role:
The Financial Controller will report into the Head of Finance and work alongside a Management Accountant. The Financial Controller will oversee the smooth day to day running of the Finance team, ensuring efficiency and accuracy of all financial transactions through hands on activity as well as managing a team of 3. The Financial Controller will play a key role in the integration and alignment of processes and systems across the Group and will proactively seek opportunities for improvement.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing two Finance Assistants and a Credit Controller, providing guidance and support to ensure high levels of quality, productivity and performance.
- Developing and implementing financial policies, procedures and controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data and compliance.
- Ensuring timely and accurate processing of all financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger entries.
- Preparing weekly debtor reports, providing insight into risks and opportunities.
- Contributing to the preparation of month end reporting, supporting with account reconciliations and the analysis of financial performance to senior management.
- Supporting cash flow management through supplier payment reports and forecasts by ensuring the AP/AR functions are up to date and accurate.
- Inputting stock costings to the accounting software in a timely manner, highlighting significant variances or additional costs.
- Ensuring compliance with VAT requirements.
- Identifying opportunities to improve financial performance and operational efficiency, including process improvements.
- Management of all transport and quality claims within Finance.
- Ad hoc project work and support to the Head of Finance.
About You:
The successful candidate will bring:
- Minimum of 5 years Finance experience
- Professional accounting qualification preferred (e.g. AAT and/or Part Qual ACA, ACCA, CIMA) but study support is available
- Experience of a fast-paced finance role, including team and month end management
- Experience in transactional finance and ideally with stock although training can be given in this area
- Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify trends, issues, and opportunities
- A collaborative approach to work, with a track record of supporting and guiding colleagues in required business practices and processes
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Excel proficiency and experience with accounting software (e.g. Sage, Quickbooks, Xero)
