Ashby

Job description

Hi I'm Harriet – I'm the VP of Marketing at Ashby. I joined the team just shy of a year ago to help publicly launch the business. Since then we've seen a lot of amazing growth and as a marketing team been focused on laying strong foundations while testing our way into a set of reliable marketing channels (and having a lot of fun along the way).

At Ashby, we are fortunate to have achieved incredible product-market fit with a customer referral flywheel in motion. However, we're usually replacing 3 - 4 tools (awesome) and as a result, have to nail our timing and nurture strategy. We are also (for now) a challenger brand to more established legacy players. Therefore, compelling storytelling and consistent engagement with our current and future customer base are critical.

Joining us means being part of a talented team, tackling the challenges of our ambitious goals, and contributing to our thriving work environment. We value humility, collaboration, and a dedication to excellence (more here). If you are passionate about bringing your unique strengths to the team and building a culture of success, we would love to hear from you.

The Role

Ashby is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Head of Content. In this role, you will get to own the end-to-end development and execution of our content strategy with the support of an incredible marketing team and network of experts. In doing so you will get to operate creatively – testing into new formats and optimizing ones (such as podcast and our trends reports) that are already working well.

Success in this role over the next 6-months will be measured on your ability to build a deep understanding of our customer, product, and talent acquisition space to define and begin implementing a content strategy that builds a strong and engaged subscriber base, and then supports our demand generation and sales efforts.

Responsibilities

Strategy Development: Develop and refine the content strategy, including campaign planning, organic and partner distribution, and segmentation to maximize our relevant subscriber base and lead generation.

Campaign Execution: Create, launch, and manage an integrated content strategy across multiple channels (e.g., blog, social media, events). To do this you will need to own our CMS, and reporting tools, and be confident with the basic principles of SEO.

Content Development: Collaborate with our internal and external experts to create compelling and targeted content assets (e.g., trends reports, podcasts, white papers, case studies, webinars) that resonate with the mid-market audience and drive demand. You will have demand gen, partnerships, and design support on the development of these assets.

Sales & Customer Success Alignment: Partner closely with the sales and customer success teams to deeply understand and then nurture the sales and customer lifecycle.

Metrics and Analysis: Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and develop a measurement framework to track and report on the success of content initiatives. Analyze campaign data, identify trends, and make data-driven recommendations to optimize performance.

Taste: Be able to make confident creative assessments and adopt and evolve Ashby’s tone of voice and personality. This will include partnering with our design team to build and implement social and blog templates.

Requirements

  • Owned the content strategy for a high-growth company where you were responsible for developing strategy, implementation, and ROI of content-driven business initiatives.

  • Have experience managing a team of high-performing writers.

  • Demonstrated experience working with complex products and being able to understand and communicate the benefits and nuances of the product.

  • Able to share strong examples of work that showcase innovative campaigns you have led that differentiate the company and resonate with the target audience.

  • Experience working in tools like Google Analytics, HubSpot, and SEMRush to monitor and then optimize campaign performance and segmentation.

  • You are empathetic and care deeply about the success of your team and customers while never taking yourself too seriously.

The Interview Process

  • Intro call (30 minutes) with our head of talent, Jim, to ensure the role is a great fit and that your experience and content philosophy sets you up to be successful on the team.

  • Past experience deep dive (45 minutes) with our VP of marketing, Harriet, to share more about our existing content strategy, what success in the role looks like, and to deep dive into your experience and approach to content.

  • Operating Principles and leadership qualities (30 mins) with our co-founder/CEO, Benji, to walk through company operating principles, and how you approach collaboration with leadership and broader strategic vision.

  • Assignment – we will give you a set of loosely worked recruiting data and analysis and ask you to write the first draft of the report and share your proposed distribution strategy to support it. You will be compensated for this work but we will not publish or use it for business purposes.

  • Final round interview (~60 minutes)

    • This round is largely focused on meeting the functional leaders you'd be collaborating with and meeting more members of the team. For this, you will have a series of meetings with people from around the team including – Kevin, Tony, and Lindsay.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity.

  • 10-year exercise window for stock options. You shouldn’t feel pressure to purchase stock options if you leave Ashby —do it when you feel financially comfortable.

  • Unlimited PTO with four weeks is recommended per year. Expect “Vacation?” in our one-on-one agenda until you start taking it .

  • Twelve weeks of fully paid family leave in the US. We plan to expand this to employees in other countries as situations arise.

  • Generous equipment, software, and office furniture budget. Get what you need to be happy and productive!

  • $100/month education budget with more expensive items (like conferences) covered with manager approval.

  • If you’re in the US, top-notch health insurance for you and your dependents with all premiums covered by us.

Ashby’s success hinges on hiring great people and creating an environment where we can be happy, feel challenged, and do our best work. We’re being deliberate about building that environment from the ground up. I hope that excites you enough to apply.

Compensation Range: $160K - $200K
